Smoker learns that Green Bull plans to decimate the Flower Capital to kill the Pirates. Smoker doesn’t want that to happen because of all the innocents who will die

So, instead of helping Green Bull, Smoker goes to the Flower Capital to warn the alliance, who wind up leaving the Flower Capital to spare the citizens from the battle

Green Bull gets pissed at this betrayal, and so he kills all of G5 himself. Smoker and Tashigi barely escape with their lives but they do escape

Smoker and Tashigi wind up kind of like Fujitora, rogue Marines with no place to go because they openly betrayed an Admiral. Then the Great Cleansing happens later on
