While totally opposite to this, when Riboku’s HQ got attacked by two soldiers, even though he didn't retreated, he showed concerns about the situation if Shiryuu or Sou'ou reaches HQ, it would be real trouble. And just when Shiryuu moved forward after kill earl brother, Riboku started sweating bullets. Even though we know with his strength and his stead he could save himself in that situation.

While we all knows Ousen fought only those battles which he calculated as his win. If not he retreats like did against Renpa and KyouEn.

If considering about reaching HQ, than as far as we ever saw, even if the whole army is moving towards it, only main core reaches there while foot soldiers left behind.
Also there Shiryuu was definitely going to reach there while Sou'ou was quite far behind considering the panles or there positions. After killing Earl, only Shiryuu's unit was close and Riboku was sweating.

Either what you said Major or may be Ousen was going to use remaining left and rear army of the HQ to create some formation and stall Bananji while himself moving away somewhere else with small unit to command his army.
