Cinera@RayanOO nah, Pain could never have been the final villain. There was too much set up around Madara for Pain to have been the EOS Villain.
Cinera@Sentinel Pain was a great villain, but Itachi is still the GOAT.
RayanOOThe final war was horrible. And Pain history being in a central village constantly attacked by other villages and constantely sandwiched in everyone wars is interesting and a central theme of naruto .
Madara should have stayed dead, this whole story of rinnegan, Obito etc wasn't interesting at all for me.
CineraPerhaps, Madara was better off dead, but Kishi had already planned him before the timeskip.
CineraThe 4th Great Shinobi War was arguably necessary to unite the villages.
RayanOOFor me Pain dream to bring peace by fear could have led all the countries to make peace. But it was done too easily in the manga, the peace between villages, the different grudges etc should have been developed more.
But we cannot change what is done we had what we had
Pein was a phenomenal force in the manga. Awesome presence and had a great skill set. Only 1 failing would be his short life span /quick heel turn. Madara was a bad antagonist. He basically existed just to allow Obito to have an end of series redemption arc.
Cinera@TheAncientCenturion Kaguya was even worse as an antagonist? Obito could have been Madara, and when I say Madara should have been the final antagonist, there would have been only him, and not the separation we had. Obito was drawn as Madara in the past (and even featured his particular Mangekyou, so I think the split was only conceived later on in the series.
CineraOrochimaru never had the firepower to have been a credible final antagonist. Even with his two arms he admitted inferiority to Itachi, so before the EOS combat ability inflation, he was already kind of capped. Pein was much more credible/threatening as an antagonist.
TheAncientGoroseiNah, Tobi was always obito. I can't remember when he showed Madara's EMS though. But Kamui was revealed in swirling patterns around chapter 377, mimicking Kakashi's offensive kamui. By that point it was sealed in stone. And, maybe if Tobi kept being Tobi, that'd of been fine. Make Madara/Tobi one entity. Good final antagonist. The Madara we got though, Edo onwards? Horrible character yet alone antagonist.
TheAncientGoroseiOrochimaru had to be nerfed the entire series because he was too strong. Given his hobby in the DBs was learning forbidden jutsu, he likely had a lot of fire power. And the unique ability to grow in rapid bursts thanks to his soul transfering jutsu. As a final antagonist, I think he'd of been interesting had the story not been so Uchiha centric. Obviously with how it turned out, he couldn't reappear and usurp the-
TheAncientGoroseiCurrent stock of antagonists. But his embodiment of chaos (and in some ways, advocating for continued Shinobi life style in the manner of warfare) definitely would've been an interesting crisis. A nice opposite to Pein's vision of peace thru cataclysm.
CineraI'm not sure if it's in the manga (I mainly watched the anime), but there was a scene where Tobi was talking to Pein and Konan in Amegakure, then he said he'd show the world Uchiha Madara's power and lightning struck and we saw Madara's EMS.
CineraPerhaps you're overrating Orochimaru's potential. He stated outright that Itachi was stronger than him, and that kind of established a cap on just how credible a threat he could be. He couldn't have evoked the same emotional reaction Pain did due to the latter's overwhelming fire power.
CineraThe deuteragonist was an Uchiha; the story was always going to be Uchiha centric.
