So Mihawk and Shanks are not comparable in that aspect.
Natalija
Natalija
You are saying he has to have grown more based on the number of arms
I am saying that Shanks must have grown more based on simply having to make up for one arm and battle his way through anyone and everyone with his Yonko status. Effort. A lot of it.

What are you talking about, almost fighting Mihawk’s butter knife literally directly inspired Zoro.
Natalija
Natalija
Inspiring Zoro was the whole purpose he appeared so early.
Cinera
Cinera
Zoro already wanted to be WSS beforr he challenged Mihawk. Mihawk didn't provide him with inspiration for his dream. He challenged Mihawk because of his dream.
Natalija
Natalija
We are never going to settle this anyway, we’ll never see them fight :(
Natalija
Natalija
Yes, but seeing Mihawk was a hugeeeee push and wake up call. Which is what inspiration means, no?
Cinera
Cinera
Fighting Mihawk showed him how large the gap between them was. How far away the strongest swordsman in the world was. It showed Zoro just how big the world truly was.
Natalija
Natalija
Yes, either I don’t understand English language or that is inspiration
Cinera
Cinera
Did it inspire Zoro to become stronger? Yes, but it's not the source of his inspiration the way Shanks was the source of Luffy's inspiration. Kuina contributed much more to Zoro's initial inspiration.
Natalija
Natalija
Okay. I never really said that Mihawk is the source of all for Zoro. But he is his mirror in most ways.
Natalija
Natalija
Strongest swordsman, pride, self-centered, no devil fruit, cold personality
It’s all meant to mirror them.
Cinera
Cinera
Mihawk inspired Zoro to become stronger, but he didn't inspire Zoro to become the World's Strongest Swordsman.
Natalija
Natalija
Mihawk = older Zoro without meeting Luffy
Cinera
Cinera
Zoro wanted to become the World's Strongest Swordsman of his own volition. Beyond that, almost the entirety of his motivation came from Kuina. Kuina was the reason he decided to challenge Mihawk. The reason he chose not to back down in the face of imminent death. The reason he would prefer death to defeat.
Natalija
Natalija
I’m not sure what is your point - that is what the story says, yes.
And Mihawk inspired him to become stronger. Why are we repeating this?

Mihawk's words to Zoro: "Does your bravery come from conviction? Or from ignorance"
Zoro's reply: "It comes from my ambition, and a promise to a dead friend".
Cinera

@Natalija what I was disagreeing with is that Mihawk was Zoro's Shanks.
Shanks:
* Saved Luffy's life.
* Inspired him to become a pirate.
* Luffy's role model.
Cinera

Mihawk didn't really fulfill that role in Zoro's life. I do agree that they share resemblances.
