ConquistadoRHey man! Im doing good.
If Arthur Dayne or Gerold Hightower were present at the Trident, Robert loses imo.
Elder Lee HungI don’t know much about the White Bull other than that he was was Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and almost seven feet tall. Baratheon men are monsters but tend to be overrated online. I’d probably favor Gerold
God BuggyYeah from Jaime's thoughts we get that Hightower was a physically imposing dude, like Robert.
Anyway Robert was a tremendous fighter but I do agree there's a portion of the fandom who overrates him a bit.
Elder Lee HungThe Kingsguard are the best fighters in the series depending on which ones we’re talking about. Robert was a beast but was no more beastly than most Baratheon men. If you read Fire and Blood, King Jaehaerys slew a Baratheon warrior in single combat, and Jaehaerys’s Kingsguard told him he would never be a Kingsguard
God BuggyGwyane Corbray was a member of the Kingsguard (a Valyrian sword wielder too) and was able to fight Daemon Blackfyre (a GOAT contender when it comes to fighters) for like an hour straight before getting defeated lol.
For the most part, being part of the of the Kingsguard has been synonim with one being a major major badass.
ConquistadoRYeah. The Kingsguard are the ultimate knights in the series.
Elder Lee HungThere are certain Kingsguard who were named for political reasons but any Kingsguard named for their strength and skill, yeah those are the best ones. Specifically the ones Bran mentions in GoT are probably the best.
God BuggyIf I were to make a list of the 10 best fighters (that we know of) in the series, it woud contain the best Kingsguards and the likes of Daemon Blackfyre, Cregan Stark and Maegor Targaryen (Maegor had an absolutely terrific portrayal as a fighter, he was said to have unmatched skills with weapons in his time).
Maybe some other non Kingsguard fighter that could feasibly be there might come to my mind lol.
NikaInParisIt's still real people fighting, so I would give the edge to the guy that was factually brawnier and had the mightier weapon.
A warhammer that a guy can weild single-handedly like a normal man weilds a sword is a brutal thing.
Elder Lee Hung@God Buggy honestly I think Maegor ain’t all that. The Kingsguards who had seen Maegor in melee still said Jaehaerys grew into a better fighter than him. I think Maegor fought in melees where the fighters were probably too scared to actually harm Aegon’s son lol. Maegor did wield Blackfire so that’s nice but I think your average Kingsguard > Jaehaerys > Maegor
Elder Lee Hung@NikaInParis brawn doesn’t really mean much in ASOIAF. Look at the mountain vs Oberyn, or look at Jaehaerys vs Borys Baratheon. Brawn doesn’t always decide fights, and Gerold is one of the most famed Kingsguard ever lol
NikaInParisYou're right @Elder Lee Hung , but Gerold's fame (as the nickname White Bull suggests) comes from his strength. We know from the current timeline that the Kingsguard isn't necessarily the Top 7 in skill.
+ In the lore book, which was written by a Lannister-loyal Maester, the kingsguard were portrayed in a better light than their king.
++ POV characters aren't to be taken by their word always. Young Jaime was in awe
NikaInParisOf all the other knights since he was just 16 when he joined.
And Robert was fucking his sister lmao. Ofc there would be favoritism toward the White Bull
God BuggyIt's still wild to me that Aemon the fucking Dragonknight, one of the most decorated knights ever, fought what likely was an out of prime Cregan Stark and said that he had never faced a finer swordsman.
ConquistadoR@God Buggy The Dragonknight is up there with the Rogue Prince in terms of raw chadness.
Elder Lee Hung@NikaInParis didn’t Jaime say that Gerold was a better fighter than him? I recall seeing on the wiki that Gerold was skilled like Dayne and Barristan and strong like Robert lol
@God Buggy Cregan rolled up into King’s Landing and pulled the “look at me, I’m the King now” meme and nobody challenged him lmfao. Definitely one of the fiercest Northmen ever.
ConquistadoR@Elder Lee Hung yep.. Cregan Stark wasnt even super old when he did it. Yet he had such an intimidating presence when he came to KL
God BuggyGerold Hightower vs Jaime Lannister both in their primes, I give the edge to Jaime.
But honestly the top Asoiaf fighters are around equivalent (with equal weapons) and it would probably just come down to small factors and who had the better day. Realistically.
