Elder Lee HungNah, I think Ubisoft doesn’t know what to do with AC anymore lol. The last AC game I played was Odyssey and I enjoyed it a lot but it and Origins are definitely just Ubisoft’s attempt to copy the Witcher’s success.
Elder Lee HungAs soon as I saw Mirage, i had a pretty strong reaction lol. It struck me as Nostalgia baiting for people who miss the old games. But I don’t want them to remake the old games, I want them to make something new and better, but I think Ubisoft doesn’t have a single clue what that means with AC lol
ConquistadoRYep. I was never a fan of them making AC games that are large open-world RPGs with combat as the priority, sacrificing stealth & parkour for that.
Mirage is a step in the correct direction imo, but i doubt the future games are gonna continue this... AC Red is gonna be another generic RPG and i doubt it will be better than Ghost of Tsushima, which is unironically more "AC-like" than the recent AC games that we got...
I
IndigoMirage feels a lot like Revelations
ConquistadoR@Indigo i agree. Just seeing gameplay clips is enough to realize that, Baghdad here reminds me a lot of Unity's Paris - a dense historical city rather than some large expansive world to explore.
Elder Lee HungYeah I never touched Halo Infinite for the same reason. Why would I ever pay $60 for a game that is a “return to form” for the old games, when I could just go play the old games lol…I want new and better. The old games are memorable because they innovated, they didn’t pander to fans of games that came out ten years ago…lol
Owl KiI have seen reviews and clips of AC Mirage and the gameplay does not strike me as being a "return to roots". The combat looks flat out worse than even AC1. AC1's combat was unsophisticated but flashy and your blows had weight. Mirage's combat looks both unsophisticated and dull, with your sword just going through opponents with no reaction. The parkour also looks clunky and worse than AC2.
Owl KiMirage looks like it takes everything bad about AC1, removes anything that was good about AC1 and abandons any improvements that occurred throughout the franchise. In short, it looks terrible. Lol.
ConquistadoR@Owl Ki The parkour ofc is terrible, because the game is still running on the same mechanics as Valhalla tbh. The setting and the mission designs was the change imo. The combat is weak too, they nerfed it to the ground to somewhat resemble the animation based combat of the old games.
ConquistadoRThe best part of combat was you can throw down smokes and continue assassinating guards with the hidden blade. Something that you could not do in Unity and that annoyed me a lot lol.
Owl KiMirage looks like a mess that is unappealing to any part of the AC fanbase. If you like the RPG stuff, sucks to be you. If you like the old games with Altair/Ezio/Kenway etc then it still sucks to be you cause this game fails to capture the core combat and parkour mechanics of the old games.
Owl KiThe fact that I see a genuine debate online between whether AC1 or Mirage has better parkour is already a fat L for Mirage because a 2023 game being in a debate with 2007 game over a simple, core mechanic of the series is just hilarious.
ConquistadoRUnity & Syndicate have the best Parkour system imo, but the Older Games still have it better than Origins and the following titles.
CalypsoMirage sucks. For real now. Stealth was nice - but combat was terrible. Too short... nothing to explore.. and people who didn't finished Valhalla won't understand the end even a bit. If you want a boring DLC game - it's perfect. I needed to play longer than I wanted because I sadly missed a trophy.
Elder Lee HungMy top 3 AC games are still AC2, Brotherhood, and Black Flag. Black Flag in particular is so good it makes me physically ill, but AC2 and Brotherhood are peak AC.
I
IndigoI really like Syndicate, even though everybody hates it lmao. It's just a matter of nostalgia from the time i played it, and i love the london setting and grapling hook. Also, the Jack The Ripper is the best DLC of the entire franchise.
CalypsoFor me - AC2, Brotherhood, Syndicate, BlackFlag and Origins.
Ezio is simply the best MC of them all. I loved the Syndicate setting (Jack the Ripper DLC was so much fun), BF being a Pirate and exploring the carribean with shantys was so much fun.. origins simply Egypt -the gods and setting just got me ♡
NikaInParisHad a potato PC when I was younger so didn't play anything past Black Flag.
Having said that, and having watched gameplays over the years, Brotherhood still stands at the top for me. Ezio is just too good.
People also say good things about Origins and that would probably be the one I would like to play the most (cmon, it has Pyramids!)
Valhalla and Odyssey look like God of War rip offs
Elder Lee HungOrigins was pretty good, nowhere near the peak of the franchise trust me. If you’re interested in Origins, play Odyssey. Odyssey is Origins but literally everything is much better. Odyssey is probably my fourth favorite AC, I think I put a hundred hours into it before I finally beat it.
