I have decided to drop One Piece a few times, but a lot of my friends discuss it, so I picked it back up again. I don't think there's any secret affection or tsundere affair with OP.

I think the writing isn't very good and only really care about power level discussions. My enjoyment of One Piece is almost entirely social (from the forum) and not derived from the manga itself.

If I ever got banned or otherwise left here, I wouldn't be reading OP. I certainly didn't read it during my hiatuses, and it's not all the time I've been active that I read it.

I know some others who are in more or less similar circumstances. The social connections they've built in the community is what keeps them here and not any enjoyment of the manga itself.

First off, I’m glad you’re here one way or another. If nothing else, OP has provided me with places like this that engender community with folks I’d otherwise never even meet in real life, and I enjoy getting to know y’all through your fandom OR lack thereof for Oda’s work. I definitely have my problems with the series, so it’s not like I think people here should blindly support everything it gives us.

Second, I’m mostly referencing certain users who stir shit up by turning every innocuous thread about totally unrelated topics into power level screaming matches. Obviously, they’re a small minority, but they’re more vocal than the rest of us, so they set the tone for better and (often) for worse. I think they give us a bad reputation among the larger OP community...

...and then they claim to not even like the series, which just makes us look like bigger assholes to the casual fan who might be basing the decision to get involved online off of their exploits. You are clearly an exception to the rule, but there are some here who make the rule necessary in the first place.

Let me put it this way - you and I (and a handful of others) donate every month to help keep this place going; therefore, in some small way, we’re responsible for what goes on here. Do you really wanna hang your hat on people who claim to dislike the series AND attack others for their opinions on the same?

That’s all I’m saying, the Battledome is emblematic of my main problem with this fandom. For some of those people to then say they hate One Piece just makes me wonder why the hell they’re wasting their time posting about it nonstop.

And Cin, let me make something equally clear - I know your character and aims, you are definitely NOT the kind of person I’m talking about here. You don’t engage in long arguments about inane bullshit, and you actually improve the reputation of our forum more than all those people combined.

But in the community’s defence; it’s like that in all communities. When you go to any other forum purely to fanboy/girl, the first thing which happens is that you get overwhelmed by all the “hate” and “frustration”. But it’s human nature

@Natalija Maybe this kind of mindset only comes with age, then...if you’re as old as me, we’re about 5 years ahead of most users on this forum, so we view things in dissimilar ways for that reason. I’ve experienced this shit elsewhere on the Internet; guess the biggest difference is that I’ve seen it happen and then totally disengaged, whereas I’ve stuck around this place longer than any others 🤔
