I think that's one of the biggest downsides of postskip, is that Oda has for some reason gone the route of cramming as much content on a single page as possible. The scene of him ragdolling Kaido would hit much harder if it took up the majority, or mostly all of the page.

If Kaido does use awakening soon, the simplest answer is that he didn't need to use it earlier, because Luffy wasn't at a level where he felt threatened enough to have to bust it out. Kaido was doing just fine, and ultimately even had the upperhand the entire time.

Imagine Onigashima gets evacuated, and Luffy ends the fight by smashing the entire Island down on Kaido. I also had made a prediction a while back, that Luffy would bury Kaido under the sea with Onigashima, and due to Kaido's Devil Fruit being a fish fruit, he'd basically be alive down there...

That actually would be crazy, as Luffy couldn't inherit Ace's Devil Fruit, due to him already having one, but gaining Roger's Sword, which would also be symbolic of Roger and Aces will, would allow for Luffy to carry on Ace's will.
