I didn't think it was a very compelling scene in the manga. I think the anime having the build up of Kaido "about to execute someone", having King offer up his blade, having Kaido look at Momo, and then doing the fake out route was really good, and really allowed the tension to build up as...
I think the execution was a lot better. It was a nice little fake out.
In the manga it felt a bit too abrupt, and didn't really have a great impact.
The anime did a good job of using its medium to make the scene more tense.
Koyama did an excellent job with everything, from Orochi's extended rant, to the extension of the Kiku and Kanjuro fight. This makes hope that he handles Kiku and Kanjuro getting finished off. Him handling that chapter would be great. Koyama obviously has a great understanding of the scabbards...

Yeah, the animation wasn't the best. There were a few cool snippets here and there, but it was mostly pretty meh sadly. The storyboard and use of colours was excellent.
Far out, this episode did a really excellent job elevating the source material with its direction. Animation struggled a bit, but the use of colours, lighting and imagery helped create a far more emotionally resonant experience than the manga.
