Chapter Discussion 1052 Has Some Of The Worst Character Writing In The Story

Apoo would be more trouble than he's worth to Kiddo (i.e Kiddo would have to give it his all)

I dont think Ashura got that much hype. His fame claim was getting the better of Jack (aka Jack-shit). He & Kanjuro felt like the sacrificial lambs, but then Kanjuro went & got cool

- Kid and Apoo i completely agree, maybe they all realized Apoo is just an unapologetic opportunist and decided to not bother with him anymore, just like Drake.
- I really doubt Kiku didn't mourn and bury her brother during the 1 week timeskip that happened, but it sucks that Oda is just skipping emotional scenes like that.
- With Hawkins i think it's a bit more nuanced than that. If we analyze how his fight with Killer ended, there's probably a part of him that regrets having taken the safe route out of fear back when Kaido dropped on them. In this case his "pride" wouldn't mean him being loyal to Kaido but simply a refusal to admit that he might've been wrong even after the tables started to turn on the alliance, like he would've been ashamed to return to Kid's side after throwing him and Killer under the bus.
- Ashura's death was actually pretty emotional if you go back and reread 1008, it's just that after all the fake outs most people just assumed there was no way he would actually die from an explosion. If anything, Izo's death feels way more out of the blue.

Kidd and killer have not forgiven apoo. See the panel properly. Kidd pirates were very surprised that apoo and his pet number came out of nowhere. Kid even called apoo a basterd. There would have been a apoo massacre if apoo didn't throw the newspaper down. Apoo might get his ass beaten either way next chapter if he provided morgan with any false information( heck kid might beat him up anyway)
He defeated Apoo's boss.
But yeah; that shouldn't be enough for Kidd, Oda. This is bad writing.
Oda's priorities on full display. He loves that bath scene and desperately wanted a contrast to excuse how weird Yamato being in the men's bath would be. Don't know how I'd solve this to my own satisfaction if I was writing this (maybe space the scenes apart and put Kaku in both?). I'll admit, I cared about the bath scene more than the funeral too. Bad writing anyway Oda.
Die if you do, die if you don't? Imagining what Hawkins could do to avoid death that wouldn't superficially seem to hasten it, is a little difficult. That said, I definitely think that he was poorly implemented into this arc. Bad writing all around for him, Oda.
I don't think it was as underwhelming as you're implying. That said, it is (at least partially) a waste of a character. Oda has enough of those though, that I think that this writing is actually pretty good.

We should reread Wano to pick up on any other writing mistake Loda has made, and to never forget how badly Loda dropped the ball.
