Many people were thinking that oden was stronger and that kaido using the hostage as a plot but:
-the plot seems to obviously be orochis and he was even sending people as offerings for kaido as experiments or for killing as he said?( Dunno why you would kill valuable workforce but whatever). Then an enraged oden tried to attack orochi again and kaido blocked him and there was a clash of CoC it seems. That shows us they were kinda evenly matched back then.
-If you reread chapter 970 he never said they would lose, he said that it would be a difficult battle if they fought then since he had less men overall. And if Oden rallied the samurai and hyogoro to his cause it wouldve been a lot more trouble.
-Seems to me like at the start of the war kaido was underestimating oden. Maybe because he was never hurt before or because he gauged his strength when they clashed. Oden proved him wrong by hitting him in his dragon form and injuring him greatly. When kaido fell down and oden was going in he said : Never come back to wano!. Those are not the words someone says to someone they believe they are about to kill.
-Furthering the fact that i believe ( and maybe im wrong) ,that since we saw him get up and cover the distance between him and oden and club him within the second it took for oden to turn around and look at momo, that he may very well have blocked that hit with his club. This chapter reinforces the idea since before we just got the impression that kaido was outmatched but it appears not to be the case. This only furthers the fact that his dragon form is the least maneuverable and weakest in 1vs1 combat.
-Now being as injured as he was and considering it was war, of course he would take advantage of oden's distracted state to strike him down. There is no use dragging the fight down to an honorable combat when he can end it right there with the least casualties and risking even more injury/death. Especially considering that he would start the real fight way more injured than Oden.
What do you guys think? Im open to any form of discussion!
