D: Are Ulti and Page One really siblings? I know that sometimes, fellow apprentices will call one anothere "Aniki!" and "Anego", but they don't look that alike, so I was curious! I'm very curious about them.♡♡ P.N. Don (20 years old)
O: Yes, they are actual brother and sister. Their father was a pirate, and after he died, his rival Kaidou took them in, or so they've heard. Ulti has always been clever, and she stole two of Kaidou's Devil Fruits, which is how she and Page One got their powers. That gave them the strength to thrive in this "survival of the fittest" pirate crew, and helped them claw their way up to the rank of Tobiroppo.
So, something always bothered me about this SBS. If this is an accurate translation, then "Their father was a pirate, and after he died, his rival Kaidou took them in, or so they've heard." is kinda suspicious.
Kaido is NOT a nice person, who enjoys being challenged. Moria's crew? Yikes, pour some of Bink's Sake out. Kidd's crew? Killer turned into the Joker. Oof. Oden? Boiled alive.
"Awwww, Kaido's SOOOO nice, he took in Ulti and Page One after their dad died, and Hanafuda let him watch over them." Ehhhhhhhhhh. What if it's more like this?
-Kaido beats Hanafuda. Kaido: "Heh, you're pretty tough. I admire your strength and mindset, but, I can't have someone like you running around, competing with my crew for Ancient Zoans. It must be hard for you to work... while your two kids are out there in the world. It's a dangerous place, you know? The New World."
-Hanafuda: "You bastard, Kaido. Leave Page One-chan and Ulti-tan out of this!"
-Kaido: "Now, now, I have my own child, whom I love very much. I won't hurt your children. But... I will be keeping them, as collateral. Any Ancient Zoans... no, any Fruit you find... belong to ME, now, Hanafuda. Ulti and Page One can grow up in Onigashima. Don't worry: I'll teach your children to be more than strong enough to protect themselves, and, this way, you can visit them often, while knowing they're safe. I pay well, too, of course."
Hanafuda agreed, and, up until he lost to Ace, things were going fine.
Once Hanafuda died while trying to return to his children, Ace heard from rumors that, after losing to him, Hanafuda had died trying to return to his kids on Onigashima. After doing more research, ie beating people up, Ace finds out Hanafuda's kids were "kidnapped" by Kaido after Hanafuda lost to Kaido.
Feeling guilty, considering his own father, Ace went to Wano to try to save Ulti and Page One from Kaido. Ace did what in Onigashima? Rescue... kidnapped children from Wano.
I don't believe in Oda's ability to make Ace look fully bad. We never had a direct reason Ace wanted to go after Kaido in the first place; Oda's brought up Hanafuda and Ulti and Page One's pasts too many times for me to think there's no set-up here. Look at Sentomaru's backstory being revealed outside the manga, only to show up in Egghead, anyway.
Ace is a beloved figure, and making it so that Ace was trying to "rescue" Ulti and Page One gives them another Tama parallel, to fit their growing connection with the Kurozumi ninja about to help rescue them from Who's Who.
If this theory is correct, I'd imagine Ulti and Page One will hate Ace at first, only to come to love him and hate Kaido once they learn the truth about their father.
Ulti and Tama both having Ace connections, and having so many interactions with each other and Luffy, makes me believe Tama and Ulti are going to become allies soon, though.
Tama and Yamato are very Straw Hat coded in that they're great at recruiting people to their side (though one of them often does so via magical mochi brainwashing, akin to Pokemon Generation 9 DLC)
But, yeah: I can't see Oda making Ace the "bad guy" here. It's also objectively hilarious to imagine Ace trying to "rescue" Tobi Roppo from Kaido. That's just adorable. Ulti Mortar intensifies
