Hi folks!
Just yesterday we got new information about Final Fantasy XVI. The news is about the combat system in the game and it brought up some discussions on gaming websites, with a huge divergence between the opinions of the news-websites and the opinion of the users (at least on german websites).
So i am very interested in your opinions. But before, let me explain the topic:
The combat system of FF XVI will be an action combat one. Comparable to FFXV and the FFVII Remake. They argue with the following words:
“For several console generations now, all character expressions can be done in real-time. Actions such as ‘press the trigger and your character will shoot a gun’… can now be easily expressed without going through a command system. “It’s now common for gamers younger than me to love such games. As a result, it seems that it does not make sense to go through a command prompt, such as ‘Battle’, to make a decision during a battle.”
So from their argumentation, a turn-based fighting system is nothing fitting a modern game.
How do you think about this, do you prefer a turn based fighting system or an action combat system, and why?
Here my opinion about this topic:
I really prefer a turn-based fighting system, my all time favorite here is Final Fantasy X. I really liked the possibility to go into different strategies, to think about possible outcomes and don’t need to rush through everything. Action combat systems pretty much feels like buttonsmashing to me. Maybe I am to old and to connected in the old systems, but I really really prefer turn based fighting systems. (if you have any good turn based RPGs, let me know. :D)
