In The latest chapter of one piece after a heated argument Kizaru asked Akainu "have you ever had to kill your best friend"

Now many people thought he was talking about Aokiji because Akainu spared him but what if I where to tell you it's pretty clear he was talking about Monkey D Dragon

As we know Dragon and Akainu are the same age with Akainu being older by only a couple months

Dragon was once a marine likely joined at the same time Akainu did

Many of the marines come in duo's

Garp and Sengoku
Koby and Helmeppo
Smoker and Tashigi
Jango and Full Body

Akainu or rather Sakazuki at that time and Dragon

I believe these two trained together, these two hate together, these two might of even lived together in some dorms

They're bond was tighter than the gordian knot, but something happened that cut that knot

What I believe happened is they learned the truth of the world

And they both took it in drastically different ways

Dragon thought that the world shouldn't be under the boot of one person that everyone should be free that the celestial dragons shouldn't exist, he spat at the entire world government how they came into power and the power they hold he wants to protect the people by freeing them from their chains and giving them back what many haven't realized they lost the right of choice

Sakazuki saw it differently tho- he believes the best way to keep people safe is order and control he believes that people should be kept on a leash that although what the world government and celestial dragons is doing is bad hell maybe even evil he sees that if the world government was to fall then chaos will overrun the world he thinks peace through control is best

At some point I believe those ideals clash and they fought

Neither one giving the other the edge but neither able to kill their best friend

Dragon would later leave the marines and Akainu would feel alone and betray and abandoned which is why it felt like he held a personal grudge against Dragon

And that's Sakazuki's best friend

In the grand scheme of things I personally don't care about their plot lol.
All I know is I'll get good manga panels and fight if they fight in the first place

Kiz and Akainu started together and made their class together

Akainu called him brother

But I agree that (in my headcanon) Dragon and Akainu likely had a bond or a relationship

Haha yeah he was pretty focused on Dragon or had a little PTSD about him lol
So much that in fact he chose to kill Dragon's son, Luffy, instead of Roger's son, Ace, the whole objective of the operation lol.
People often forget that Akainu killed Ace, but only because Ace put himself there; Akainu was going for Luffy lol.

So there is surely history between the two, and since we know Dragon was a marine, well, 1+1

I like this theory a lot

Dragon didnโ€™t know of Imu and Sakazuki only has suspicions. I think they were friends but I think their breakup was on a way lesser scale than finding out who the main villain is lol
