I’ve seen a lot of “Dressrosa is new world Alabasta” talk mainly when comparing Doffy and Crocodile; but the two arcs don’t seem that similar to me.
Alabasta is more similar to Wano while Dressrosa is more similar to Skypeia
Let’s look at the arcs side by side.
Alabasta and Wano:
1. The final arc in a multi arc saga
2. An arc where luffy fought and lost to the main villains on 3 different occasions each (and where Luffy couldn’t even hurt the enemy)
3. The villains ultimate plan being connected to the obtaining the ancient weapon
4. The connection to the Pluton
5. Both countries have a flying guardian and a dog guardian: Falcon -> Dragon and Jackel -> Yamato
6. Both villains had plans to destroy the main capital of the country before leaving the country but was stopped by the flying guardian getting the bomb safely out of harms way
7. The saga starting when the Straw Hats discover the missing member of the countries royal family in earlier arcs and saga ending with Luffy inviting them to join the crew whenever they feel ready
Dressrosa and Skypeia:
1. Both islands being made up of two separate pieces of land, one holding a mythological species: Fairies and Angels
2. Doffy and Enel sharing the same false god persona (Kami and a Celestial Dragon)
3. The false gods gaining the crown by forcibly removing the previous leader who ends up fighting the new leader in the shadows (Ricky and the Sky Knight)
4. The fact that both islands are introduced as slices of heaven but the more you dive in the darker the island gets
5. Wyper sacrificing himself to defeat Enel only for Enel to remassage his heart with his devil fruit is a direct parallel to Law sacrificing himself to kill Doffy only for Doffy to sew his organs together with his devil fruit
6. Both villains looking to completely destroy the islands and everyone living there when they no longer needed it (Birdcage and Kingdom Come)
And there are more connections for the arcs I mentioned, which seem more clear than dresrosa and alabasta which it seems like people just compare because Doffy and Croc are both warlords.
