Way back when when Unova was just starting I hadn't even watched pokemon for years but maybe around 2012 I got into anime iirc I re-watched from episode 1 all throughout to when Iris came along, I couldn't not stand her and that still stands.

Didn't like the game or just Steven?

He was barely present to even care for.
He's overhyped because of Steel type.
Lance is a better character on actions alone. Even if he's a so called Dragon Type champion, it's more like actually "Flying" kek.
I just don't think the Majority of Champions are really anything to write home about.

I'm speaking from an Anime perspective but even then with Games it's close to similar.

I don't have super much more to add. When the tournament is over it'll be easier to more accurately scale the champs other than just saying "they're relative".

Character wise though I wouldn't expect much.
