I have been reading listening to people on this topic ever since the spoilers came out. And i collected some thoughts and maybe i came up with something.
Anyways. a devil fruit that is a legend to the Gorosei and hasn't been awakened in centuries. Awakened here doesn't have to mean "power awakened like Doffy Kata". But instead emerged or surfaced.
We knew that Zunisha committed a crime and is only allowed to walk while carrying Zou for centuries as a punishment. Whoever gave that order could have also not allowed Zunisha to talk, So using Voice Of All Things was the only way to talk to someone without breaking that promise/rule.
- So if Zunisha is a DF user knowing Oda the fruit is actually infront of us "Zou".
- Now who ate the fruit has to be a Sentient being since it could talk indirectly Via Voice Of All Things. (this can be debunked since Sea Kings Can do that so this only applies IF Zunisha has a DF)
- If Zunisha has a DF then that being who ate it could be a Giant (Giants can live for centuries) OR Ancient Giant. (Which would explain the size and its living for that long)
- Why Ancient Giant.. Wano is a collective of islands that anyone who sees it will connect to the dots to what Moria said about Ancient Giants and Ozz aka Continent Pullers. Onigashima itself is a giant skull and i am willing to assume that this skull belonged to an Ancient Giant that helped create Wano.
So the final thought is Zunisha is an Ancient Giant who ate a DF and was tasked to move Zou the island to Wano but it committed a crime and the plans were foiled so someone gave Zunisha an order to keep carrying Zou as a punishment until the day a Sovereign changes this order.

Finally.. this idea can be ruined if the shadows from Thriller Bark were actually Zunisha's Pack.
