As in the thread right below this, there was a lot of speculation about why Van Auger and Devon went to Egghead.

Likely, Blackbeard had knowledge of the Seraphim and intended to take Vegapunk’s appearance/DNA through Devon in order to be able to control them.
However, in their position observing the events on Egghead, they realized the Gorosei have an even higher authority. When the opportunity presented itself, VA warped her to Saturn to grab his appearance.
With it, and maybe Vegapunk’s also if she got to one of their bodies, Blackbeard Pirates can control the Seraphim.
