Bonney's dad is a celestial dragon, but we don't know who he is. While this person could be a nobody, imo he is a member of the Figarland family. Possibly Garling himself.
When Oda drew a gender swapped version of Bonney in an SBS, he bore an uncanny resemblance to Shanks. Furthermore, apart from the Gorosei and Imu, Garling is the only other major celestial dragon that we know of. Given how there's no evidence Imu or the Gorosei are Bonney's father, I think its very likely that it is Garling.
Garling is the leader of the holy knights. If Zoro, Sanji, and possibly jinbe will fight Gorosei, the holy knights will likely fall to the mid or weak trio. Does that mean Garling will be beaten by Brook or Franky? while I don't doubt their capabilities, the mid and weak trio just don't seem important enough to beat someone like Garling, who is the father of a yonko and fought in God Valley.
I think Bonney will likely be the one who defeats him. Given how strong Bonney has already shown herself to be, I think she would be a much better candidate to beat someone of Garling's hype than the mid or weak trio. I also feel like Bonney beating Garling would have huge thematic symbolism.
Luffy is Shanks's successor, inheriting his straw hat. At the moment, it really seems like Bonney is being set up to be Luffy's successor. I think eventually, Luffy will fail to return the straw hat to Shanks. Shanks will die, possibly by the hands of Imu or Teach, and as a result Luffy will be left to give the hat to Shanks's closest relative. Bonney.
We are reaching a part in the story where Luffy's epithet "Straw hat Luffy" is getting less and less relevant. The epithets of "Joy Boy", "Sun God", and eventually "pirate king" will hold much more weight going forward. As a result I think in the final war, it would be fine for Luffy to pass down the hat. It would symbolize that Luffy has evolved beyond being just a boy with a straw hat, and that now he has fully accepted his role as the sun god. Luffy giving Bonney the hat could also be a parallel to when he gave the hat to Nami. I know he's also given his hat to other people that he trusts, I just cannot think of them at the moment.
Anyways after Shanks's death, Bonney gets the hat. In the final war, Bonney will defeat Garling wearing Shanks's hat, proving the superiority of Shanks's ideology to that of Garling's. As was shown, Garling is the exact opposite of Shanks.
Shanks is a defender of the weak
Garling's first line in the series was a direct repudiation of this,.
Also one last bit of symbolism. Garling's head is in the shape of a moon. Bonney is a follower of Nika and can copy Nika's form. Bonney vs Garling will be a battle between the sun and the moon.
