Some time ago, I noticed something that has now come back to my mind.
There are two characters in the overall One Piece story, who have almost never acted out of their own interest, but are being controlled by the WG to do their bidding for them. And onto those two characters Oda is laying the main focus on in the Egghead arc, because they are going to have their shackles removed very soon.
For this I want you to take a closer look at the epithets of those two characters: One is called `Human weapon´ (Kuma), the other is called `Massacre weapon´ (Lucci). As you can see, both character’s epithet describe them as weapons. It makes me think of what this actually is supposed to mean.
Weapons are usually fire arms, swords, tanks or drones – those are objects that do not posses a conscience and are just used to kill or hurt people.
It is not different than a gun: You load it, point it at people and pull the trigger. The gun fires and the person is dead. This is what their epithet means, in my opinion. Someone orders them to do something and they do it regardless of how demeaning or brutal it sounds and is. It decribes the actions of both characters perfectly. Because we can see Kuma and Lucci acting not upon their own personal agenda, but under the one of the WG. (In Kuma’s case he is even considered a slave. In Lucci’s case he has up until Egghead not once questioned his orders and was always seen taking those as priority.)
Oda even highlights this in the last page. With Lucci’s comment of him and Kaku being “useful” if Luffy and Zoro were to take off the cuffs, it only shows how much ingrained it is in his head that the best he has to offer is his fire power. And I think this is the exact reason Luffy and Zoro are pulling those faces. Because the concept of using a person is disgusting to them.
Both Kuma and Lucci being now centerpieces in the arc is in my opinion no coincicence. Oda is working towards freeing them from their shackles.
But before that happens I want to know what each of their true motives are for subjugating themselves and their entire existence to the WG. What do they get in return for their life?
On an interesting side note: The person who is now trapping everyone within the dome and is targeting them is probably from the WG. Because this is exactly what the WG wanted from the start: No one is to flee Egghead, Vegapunk is to be killed.
Now the interesting part is, that Lucci and Kaku are specificly targeted here as well, as we can extract from Zoro’s statement of the Seraphim charging at Kaku and Lucci.
As I said before, I do not think that the WG ever wanted for Kaku and Lucci to leave the island alife from the start. Because have you noticed how Lucci’s priorities have shifted since they reached Egghead? He is not prioritizing their mission anymore – he is all out destroying the lab, picking fights with Luffy and isn’t doing anything what Akainu wants them to do. That guy has a reason for acting out of character. Other than in Water 7 and Enies Lobby, Lucci could always be seen making his duty his priority. Now of all people it is him who allows himself for the first time in this story to have his personal interests influence over his actions.
And I want to know what those interests are that they have so much sway over him: I think this reason is Shaka – his twin-like counterpart (They are exactly the same if you look at posture, eloquent speech pattern, way of thinking, etc.). This connection is in my opinion the reason the WG is also targeting Lucci. It wouldn’t surprise me if we get to see Lucci and Shaka as some kind of brothers – and that the WG knows they are brothers. Why do I believe they know it? It is because of Stussy. She is working since years for CP0 and knows Vegapunk. So, her being able to know their connectinon is a given. And this is also a reason I think that it is her who is the traitor – not a Vegapunk. (It was her who let Akainu being informed about the SHP on Egghead - it was not Lucci or Kaku, it was her! A true ally would not do that.)
Shaka stating that the traitor has to be a Vegapunk is not that far fetched, but he is missing something important: Holograms. With them everyone can produce an image of Stellar or a Satellite or even a Gorosei-member and order the Seraphim to do everything one wants.
