I'm surprised how hard it is for people to understand honesty. Garp chose the path of justice and tried to make Luffy and Ace great sailors like him, but they turned into pirates. Garp not saving Ace and maintaining his value is the best part of the character, if he saved Ace he would just be a nepotistic piece of shit.

Garp represents the symbol of justice for millions of civilians, maintaining that symbol makes more sense than helping a pirate bum like Ace who thought he should and could 1v1 Sakazuki
