From the Domi Rocks vs Garp and Roger fight, I think people got used to AdvCoC just being CoA but better so when Oda introduced “CoC shields and CoC negation” people just assumed it’s CoA armor but better again. It’s not. The word “negation” is deliberately different from “armor” that’s used to describe defensive COA.
The difference between these two is shown most clearly in the Harald vs Shanks and Gaban interactions.
Gaban says that he and Shanks aren’t doing much to Harald because of his CoC and yet there’s this
It seems Gaban and Shanks are fully capable of cutting Harald to pieces. And yet Gaban is saying that Harald’s CoC is a problem.
Thing is, cutting Harald to pieces is easy
Jarul and all the fodder Giant guards run their swords and spears through Harald like he is butter
the issue is that you need to do CoC damage that slows down Harald’s regeneration in order for you to be making any difference in this fight
Gaban and Shanks aren’t complaining that they can’t do any damage, clearly they can chop him to pieces as easily as Jarul can. Their issue is that it has to be CoC damage that slows down Harald’s regeneration for it to matter.
Harald IS NEGATING Gaban and Shanks’ CoC. And this is very clearly different from how CoA armor works. CoA armor either FULLY STOPS damage from going through or it gets broken by too much damage.
Harald isn’t doing a CoA armor thing since even fodder can damage him and his CoA armor would have stopped fodder damage. Harald is simply using his CoC to negate specifically CoC damage from getting through.
Shanks and Gaban are cutting Harald to pieces as shown above but it’s the same as when the Guards damage Harald, he has stopped Shanks and Gaban’s attacks from containing CoC that can actually slow down his regeneration
CoC negation is removing CoC from the damage someone is dealing. This isn’t how CoA armor works. COA armor is a literal wall of armor that either stops all damage or it breaks down
