The Dark Mark and the Deep Sea contract are kinda similar

Both marks from their respective Dark Lords are used to brand the select few chosen to obey and served them.

Only those really close can have it and wear it.

Also both marks are a teleportation device :

- the dark mark can help summon other death eaters directly to Voldemort. Also the Dark Lark enable DE (death eaters) to move around special magic barriers etc.
- the deep sea contract « user » can create portals to summon other deep sea HK or maybe Imu directly

Both can also kinda communicate with their dark lords thanks to the marks :
- with the Dark Mark the DE can signal things to Voldemort or warn him.
- as we saw this chap the DSC (deep sea contract) allows use to directly communicate with wily via portals

There is also a bad side to both :
- the Dark Mark is burning hot, and I think if you’re not answering the call, it will keep burning bad. Voldemort can likely torture his guys like that, preventing them to run away from him or if they did they would suffer
- As we saw the DSC is even worse as your free will is partly removed. You have to obey and your body acts by himself. You can still fight the urge but it’s almost impossible

Overall the DSC have the best highs and the worst lows and the Dark Mark doesn’t give outright powers but they are working kinda the same way

If we want tu push the comparison the Horcruxs and the Abyss pact works also a bit the same way

deeper connection : Voldemort can feel his horcruxs emotions, go into their heads and even take control of them/possess them. Like he did to Nagini, Ginny or Harry. Or how the necklace was able to corrupt and influence other people mind / behavior.

In OP it seems that at the deepest level of contract Imu can possess his main retainers : Gorosei / Gunko, see through them and wear them like gloves if needed.

Powers : Horcruxs gave Harry some powers like the abilities to use Parseltongue. Also Horcrux are hella resistant and durable and can only be killed by a few selected ways. Most spells and harms are effective at all.

While in OP the contracts also gives powers, and make you extremely hard to kill except some special ways like adCOC etc.

What do you think ? Do you think they look alike ? Which one do you prefer ? Which one if the biggest scam lol ? What is the coolest tattoo ?

They are similar indeed comunication wise, but it looks like im/power is not diminished. It also reminded me a bit of the marks on the homunculus Fullmetal alchemist with Im beeing like Father.
It looks to me like a bit of both, as this type of contract is similar to many other series or at least it seams like it. With Oda giving his own twist to the ideea of contract

Oda definitely takes some HP inspirations, Sanji's power of love being a defense tool might be another. Also all the dead moms might be because of Lily Potter lmao.

Imu's are way more value for money as far as henching is concerned. Imu is also a forgiving boss as seen with Garp whereas Maldemort is a chronic seether who'll start throwing unforgivables around at the slightest opportunity.

Also outside of Harry because of the Horcrux, Voldy couldn't possess anybody or empower them. He just used it as a communication and identification tool.

The earliest example I can recall of people gaining physical marks by serving someone evil would be the Mark of The Beast in Christian mythology.
I guess. But HP and Berserk were both written independently of each other and yet share a similar theme lol. It‘s actually fascinating. Highly doubt JK Rowling even heard of Berserk in the 90s already given the general public only truly gained proper access to the internet in the 2000s in the UK.

Could be a case of convergence tbh, many cultures, mythologies etc have often similar themes, figures and stories due to how similarly people think.

Does HP have many other similarities to Berserk?
