I am thinking about opening a debate thread like this and I hope it gets traction (unlike most of my threads, which die within 24 hours
). The debate topic is this: Will Luffy and Zoro take on Shanks and Mihawk as their EoS fight?
Note to Moderator: This is not a power-level discussion per say. It should take story into consideration as well. So, please do not relocate to the battledome section.
Preamble:
We know that Luffy wants to be better (stronger/better crew/stronger crew?) than Shanks. From the first chapter, it seems that he wants to be the king of pirates as it means that he will be better than Shanks.
Now, let's move on to Zoro. He has his sight set on the title of "World's strongest Swordsman". As far as he is concerned, he needs to be better/stronger than Mihawk to achieve that title. Of course, all of this is common knowledge for people like us.
Ultimately, Luffy's goal post is to surpass Shanks and Zoro's goal post is to surpass Mihawk (at least this far into the story). Now, lets go and see some really random parallels (man! we have made the word so cheap, haven't we?): [I wish we had a method to make a table, OJ had something like that]
Akagami no Shanks
Now, you guys don't have to agree on the power-levels of Shanks and Mihawk but it seems that both Shanks and Mihawk are being kept for some confrontation with Luffy and Zoro. Yes, Luffy has a big bad on the horizon who goes by the name of Blackbeard but Zoro has nobody (let's face it, Shiryu is not a suitable replacement for Mihawk; unlike Blackbeard who is a suitable replacement for Shanks).
So, let's have a debate on this topic: Will Luffy and Zoro take on Shanks and Mihawk as their EoS fight?

Akagami no Shanks
- He was introduced in the very first chapter of the manga, within the EB saga.
- He is one of the top four pirates of the world.
- Has a mysterious past (but unlike Kaido, his past seems to be entangled with that of WG and CDs).
- He has strong connections with Marines, WG and CDs (evidenced twice when Sengoku and later the Gorosei were willing to listen to him).
- He is happy-go-lucky person who stays with his friends.
- Top-tiers are not a problem for him (fought WB and stopped Akainu on-panel, stopped Kaido off-panel).
- Has been conveniently kept out of the story since the beginning.
- Pushed Luffy into the dream of becoming king of pirates.
- Not considered to be a bad guy who can be EoS opponent for Luffy.
- He was introduced very early into the manga, in Chapter 49 if I remember correctly,
- He is the World's strongest Swordsman (whatever that means to you is irrelevant, he has the title).
- He has a mysterious past.
- His eyes are unique in the sense that only one other character got the same eyes (and that is the biggest baddest of all CDs apparently).
- He is a loner who likes to live alone.
- Top-tiers are not exactly a problem for him (fought Shanks off-panel, had no hesitation in going after WB, although admittedly, neither did Crocodile and Mihawk's portrayal wasn't that good in that specific encounter).
- Has been conveniently kept out of the story since the beginning.
- Helped Zoro in his dream of becoming WSS.
- Not considered to be a bad guy, making it difficult for some to accept him to be the EoS opponent of Zoro.

So, let's have a debate on this topic: Will Luffy and Zoro take on Shanks and Mihawk as their EoS fight?
Debate Guidelines:
- There will be five (5) members on the Supporting team and five (5) members on the Opposing team.
- The members who wish to become debater in this topic will tag me and I will add their names to the respective team.
- Once five members are listed for any team, the team is complete and no change/additions will be made.
- Once both teams are completed, the debate will begin.
- Member 1, Supporting Team will post first. Followed by Member 1, Opposing Team.
- Then, Member 2, Supporting Team followed by Member 2, Opposing Team.
- And so on.
- Debate will close when Member 5 of each team has made his/her 3rd post.
- A poll will be created to declare the winner.
- Comparing Luffy and Zoro's power-levels or Shanks and Mihawk's power-levels is completely prohibited. Such comparison has no bearing on the match-ups. You can compare between Luffy and Shanks' power-level; or between Zoro and Mihawk's power-level though.
- There will be NO mention of Sanji in any posts. Mentioning him will be considered "baiting".
- For the purpose of the thread, Mihawk and Shanks will remain separate threats (i.e. will not form a partnership or subordinateship). You can consider Luffy and Zoro separating from each other to make things easier.
- For any debate, the viz translation will be considered to be the most trustworthy translation.
