Dimensional Powers: A New Take On Devil Fruits
I'm going to suggest that what Dr. Vegapunk said about Devil Fruit users living in different dimensions is meant to be taken literally and expand on this concept.
1. Devil Fruits contain dimensions created by the dream of someone before them.
2. When someone eats a Devil Fruit, their body gains the properties of the specific dimension.
3. Additionally, when someone awakens a Devil Fruit, they become able to make things other than their own body gain the properties of the specific dimension.
In other words, at the height of Devil Fruit abilities, users are able to manifest the very dimensions themselves by causing the real world to temporarily gain their properties. Although, I will add that there are specific ways the different fruit types do this.
A) Paramecia users create a Bizarro Dimension
B) Logia users create an Elemental Dimension
C) Zoans generally adapt to an environment/dimension instead of create one, I think. However, the other categories of Zoans such as Ancient or Mythic can have abilities from other classes entirely, and can therefore create both Bizarro and Elemental Dimension types or an odd mix of them. For example, Marco's Phoenix abilities resemble Logia abilities, but they have healing properties instead of burning properties.
Interestingly, one of the major differences between the classes in terms of awakenings relates to the logia state. Because it allows logia users to shift into another state, and they can cause other things to shift to that state, it means logia users are able to combine their body with their surroundings as a result, but paramecia and zoan users typically cannot. Blackbeard cannot do this because his logia fruit doesn't change his state. Darkness doesn't have a state. It's a force and not a substance like the others.
