Sky splitting can be done with contact since it is due to conqueror's haki. Non contact is due to barrier haki which is a function of CoA.

Instances where there isn't contact and sky splitting, both CoA and CoC are in play.

I always told that WB and Roger never splitted the sky. Oda messed up hard with this take.

Look how interesting is to analyze those videos. Shanks's blade never touched WB's blade imagine how bad WB could have made Shanks if it touches.

And how awful Wano animation is both pacing and special effects. Old animation does much better with less glitter.

In the case of Whitebeard and Shanks, Big Mom and Kaidou were made by contact, Kaido and Luffy replicated the feat of non-contact like Roger and Wb.

It doesn't mean that the other emperors like Shanks and Wb, Big Mom, can't do it through non-contact, I think that if Kaidou and Big Mom had done it through non-contact, it would break the island in half.

From what we’ve been shown the admirals can use that armament barrier technique and thanks to the Katakuri fight there’s basically implication that they have future sight because of their ability to shape shift around attacks. Idk how much deeper it will go for them due to how reliant they seem to be on their elemental power as opposed to physical stuff. The non contacting attacks appear to be a result of using kings haki alongside armament barrier. I’m still waiting for at least Sakazuki to unveil some type of kings haki since we’ll probably never see Sengoku use it.

Barrier stuff is overrated. Even sentomaru can do it. Get one shotted by Lucci. The advantage of logia is their body structures. Even you have basic observation haki. You can dodge it better

by changing your body structures to avoid it. It also energy efficient. You don't have to use much energy to move left and right. Just change the shape of your body. That's it.
