Character Discussion Does Akainu have honor?

#1
Akainu notoriously attacked WB while the old man was having a heart attack, and it is generally considered a dick move and dishonorable to attack someone while they’re having a heart attack. Akainu also, without objection, lied to Squard in order to trick him into weakening WB with a sneak attack. Akainu also chose to taunt Ace in order to lure him away from the rest of the WBP instead of just attacking the WBP head on.

WB was the loser of the bygone era and was a dirty pirate, why Akainu is going to have honor with a criminal?
Same with Ace...
and only for Pis Akainu did not melt his head and Sengoku was the one who ordered the plan to manipulate Squard

There certainly is. Look no further back than Katakuri. There is no honor required among pirates and it shouldn’t be expected, but some certainly have it.
You say that like he wasn’t on board with double crossing Germa while they were unsuspecting and at their weakest, like he wasn’t the first one to try and kill Sanji.

WB only sneak attacked Akainu out of rage after Akainu killed his son, so he was justified, especially since the only reason why Akainu was able to kill Ace in the first place is by taunting him by insulting WB

Kaido didn’t order the old hag to trick Oden, so Kaido had no idea what was going on, and Kaido redeemed his honor by killing the old hag

I didn’t say he was a good guy or that his sense of honor might not be skewed. It can be within a character’s wheelhouse to betray and backstab and still have honor when it comes to a fight. Just like the strawhats were willing to steal treasure from Skypia yet every member has shown honor in other situations like Sanji with his cooking, Chopper as a doctor, etc.

I'm really used to better Akainu slander content from you @Shiroyru. This is straight up as low as it gets.

Akainu has no honor or respect for anyone he deems an outlaw, Roger may've been an exception but the entire point of that conversation was to bait Ace so Akainu may've said that to push his buttons.

Akainu chose to let Kuzan live despite him turning his back to the Marines. He was also the one calling Fuji despite the latter disobeying his orders which shows that he put his pride aside for an important matter.

Killing soldiers in the military for disobeying orders was the most usual thing in the world for the largest portion of our history and is still practiced in some countries even today.

Be more creative please.

He has no honor, he just took interest in Luffy and wanted a fair fight with him.

He is literally a member of the Big Mom pirates, they have destroyed, pillaged, and conquerored many lands, sometimes for things as petty as a wedding cake.

What I said still goes. He has no honor. The Strawhats have no honor either, thus why they are pirates now. If Luffy had honor he would join the marines. Being a doctor doesn’t make you honorable...

P.S that Skypei moment is a perfect example of the lack of honor. Nami has the least of it on the crew lol

doesnt matter kaido went in with it
killing the hag also doesnt matter since oden still gonna die because of her
if kaido really wanted to redeem his honor he shouldve let oden heal and get into another 1v1

I disagree on the no honor part. It’s just that their honor is context dependent. Sanji won’t poison food because of his honor as a chief, nor will he let someone starve. But it doesn’t mean he won’t steal and commit other crimes.

What about killing innocent civilians at Ohara just because a few “criminals” might have been on board? That isn’t honorable

Honor is a completely subjective ideal that is open to a wide spectrum of personal interpretation. What one man considers honourable, another could very well consider it dishonourable.

Is it honorable to prioritize a fair fight with the enemy over killing/tricking them and bringing a battle to a close quickly thus minimising your own army's casualties?

Nah son, that sounds like a selfish, illogical, irresponsible dick move to me.

Is Akainu honourable? Who cares? The man gets the job of frying criminal fools done. :akasalt:

I don’t think pirates should be expected to have any honor nor should marines be expected to show them any in return. I think it’s respectable that marines like Smoker, Kuzan, Garp, etc show it but that’s a personal choice on their part.

Now.. toasting civilians is another story...

That’s personal morals and self rule...

Honor from Oxford dictionay

  1. high respect; great esteem.
  2. adherence to what is right or to a conventional standard of conduct.
  3. regard with great respect.
  4. fulfill (an obligation) or keep (an agreement).
:kata:
Kata broke 2 of the biggest ones while having little of the two subjective ones. He came to respect Luffy through combat but had no problem smothering him cruelly in mochi (which he notes is fucked up) then going to eat donuts like nothing happened
