Does God Valley still exist?

Here's a odd wrinkle. Oda may have just hinted that God Valley still exists...in a VERY round-about way.

In the latest chapter (1158), we see wee baby Shanks and Shamrock on God Valley. So, we can probably assume they were born there.

So, let's take a look WAY back at chapter 434.

Shanks has sake...from his hometown. Which means he COULD be talking about God Valley.

There's even a non-zero chance that what Shanks gave Whitebeard...is actually Bink's Sake.

Okay, so...I guess this could mean that Shanks still has some sake that the Roger Pirates may have stolen off God Valley. Which is a little odd. It's a little weird that the Roger Pirates had time to just take some booze off the island with them when they left. But, then again, they also had time to take the treasure chest that baby Shanks was found in. So, I guess they weren't in TOO much of a rush to leave God Valley. They still had time to do a bit of looting. I guess that's some finely aged sake, if it's been sitting around for the past nearly 40 years. It's also weird that this amount of booze would have lasted this long, being around a bunch of alcohol-thirsty pirates and all.

Or...could this mean that God Valley still exists, and Shanks is still able to visit there once in a while? Does this scene prove that God Valley wasn't destroyed? Is it possible that God Valley still exists, somewhere out there? (And not as Thriller Bark, as some people have theorized, myself included. Or as the Ancient Weapon Uranos, which is another possibility, I've seen out there.)

Or could Oda have just made a error and this is all just a plot hole? Or maybe Shanks considers someplace else his "hometown"? Although, it's worth pointing out that God Valley IS in the West Blue.

Or maybe all this booze...is actually Captain John's Treasure? The guy did enjoy a nice bottle or three every hour. Maybe Shanks just stole Buggy's treasure right out from under him. That would be Buggy's luck.

This is just a weird thing that I didn't think about until right now. But, this could be a major reveal, now that I think about it.

I pretty much doubt Oda really had plans for Shanks in like 2006 that we are seeing in the manga today. Oda probably imagined Shanks growing up in a small west blue town before meeting Roger, remember, celestial dragons weren't even really introduced for a couple years at that point. Most likely for the sake of continuity,Roger knew someone to watch over baby Shanks somewhere in the west blue, only to later come pick him up a couple years later to be an apprentice.

So, I usually check Stephen Paul's translations (he's the current VIZ translator) for chapters he didn't work on.

This time, I noticed something interesting. In his translation, Shanks mentions that his hometown has freezing-cold water. But God Valley doesn't seem to fit that description.

Interestingly, in Chapter 234, Shanks was resting on a winter island, Yukiryu Island, before departing to meet Whitebeard. Ace had also met Shanks on a winter island in the past. Maybe Shanks' birthplace is God Valley, but his hometown is another West Blue island with a winter climate.

From Stephen Paul's TL Script said:
Whitebeard: Yeah... No war for now... Give us some privacy.

Whitebeard: This is West Blue liquor... Bet it's not very good.

Shanks: I've been around the world... But there ain't nothing like booze made from water cold enough to freeze the skin. It's a drink from my hometown. Hope you enjoy it!!

Imu has it

Oda always takes inspiration from other sources and media 90% of one piece is inspired by something else

What happened to God Valley is no different

If you're familiar with superman comics you'll know in most versions krypton didnt actually blow up

Brainiac shrunk it and kept it in his collection

Im betting something similar happened to God Valley it was shrunken and imu has it

This is interesting! None of the other translations I've seen mentioned the "freeze the skin" part. So, maybe the idea was that Shanks is talking more about his "home base", rather than the place he was born? Whatever the original intention, we can probably say that's the case, if Oda never expands more on that.

"Yukiryu" is also a interesting name for that island. "Snow Dragon" Island. Another "dragon" mentioned in the story. Interesting.
