Here's a odd wrinkle. Oda may have just hinted that God Valley still exists...in a VERY round-about way.
In the latest chapter (1158), we see wee baby Shanks and Shamrock on God Valley. So, we can probably assume they were born there.
So, let's take a look WAY back at chapter 434.
Shanks has sake...from his hometown. Which means he COULD be talking about God Valley.
There's even a non-zero chance that what Shanks gave Whitebeard...is actually Bink's Sake.
Okay, so...I guess this could mean that Shanks still has some sake that the Roger Pirates may have stolen off God Valley. Which is a little odd. It's a little weird that the Roger Pirates had time to just take some booze off the island with them when they left. But, then again, they also had time to take the treasure chest that baby Shanks was found in. So, I guess they weren't in TOO much of a rush to leave God Valley. They still had time to do a bit of looting. I guess that's some finely aged sake, if it's been sitting around for the past nearly 40 years. It's also weird that this amount of booze would have lasted this long, being around a bunch of alcohol-thirsty pirates and all.
Or...could this mean that God Valley still exists, and Shanks is still able to visit there once in a while? Does this scene prove that God Valley wasn't destroyed? Is it possible that God Valley still exists, somewhere out there? (And not as Thriller Bark, as some people have theorized, myself included. Or as the Ancient Weapon Uranos, which is another possibility, I've seen out there.)
Or could Oda have just made a error and this is all just a plot hole? Or maybe Shanks considers someplace else his "hometown"? Although, it's worth pointing out that God Valley IS in the West Blue.
Or maybe all this booze...is actually Captain John's Treasure? The guy did enjoy a nice bottle or three every hour. Maybe Shanks just stole Buggy's treasure right out from under him. That would be Buggy's luck.
This is just a weird thing that I didn't think about until right now. But, this could be a major reveal, now that I think about it.
