Character Discussion Does Sukuna need a backstory?

#1
Lately, two of the most powerful characters in their universe have started to look worse with backstories: Kaidou and AFO from MHA. They had a mystery, but after losing it, they became boring (and even charisma didn't help AFO, he went from being a S-level villain to a B-level villain). So, does Sukuna still need a backstory?

Stories require stakes, tension, conflict - the building blocks for intriguing narrative.

Granted, there are no hard rules on this. Few people care about Godzilla's wants and needs or feelings, they just want to see a giant lizard wreck shit with his atomic breath. That's valid.

Sukuna, as a character, however, simply by way of the narrative itself has too many questions that demand answers. If too few are answered, I suspect many will be dissatisfied with the overall story.
