So, it’s almost a guarantee there is an anime out there for anyone; however, not all sports are equal. There is still an abundance of sports without any adaptions, some that really make you shake your head and wonder... WHY JAPAN?
No dodgeball, no hockey, no snowboarding, but we have fucking LACROSSE? Nevertheless, it seems like tony hawk, the god skater himself has shimmered his influence onto Japan, giving us SK8 the infinity, the FIRST skating anime!
And I know a lot of you rolled your eyes at this shocking announcement; a skating anime? How lameeeeeeee! Hold your horse's folks, because SK8 has potential to be the next Haikyuu! Yes, IT’S THAT GOOD!
PLOT
SK8 follows the story of a young boy named Reki. A hotheaded teen with a strong passion for skating. He participates in deadly races where all rules are off the tables. Skating down dangerous terrain, fighting your opponent on board; the only rule is the person who makes it to the finish line first is the winner. Similar to movies such as fast and the furious and mad max!
After a crushing defeat against his rival “shadow”; a cruel devious schemer that looks like a reject clown from IT, things seem pretty down for him. Until we meet the handsome western foreigner (Langa) from canada! Thank god he’s not your cliché blue eyes blond european foreigner; other people exist japan, thank you for recognizing it.
Nevertheless, soon after a blooming bond erupts after something clicks inside Langa; as he hilariously fails to ride a skateboard. And obviously our energetic protagonist has to prove to anyone how awesome skating is, so he invites Langa into the “super-secret” organization called S!
And this scene is fucking hilarious; these fools out here looking like they dealing drugs; imagine if this happened in america lol!
Moving on, in an entertaining montage, Reki educates Langa on the glory of “S” racing. And they take this event VERY seriously; once you commit to a duel, you have to put something valuable on the line. This could range from money, to even women...
Jesus, how is this unofficial underground competition still allowed to exist? You would think with how strict Japan authority is, this would’ve been clapped faster than saitama one shotting sea emperor!
Next, best boy Lango discovers his hidden love for skating, after they deal with some thot and her doofus of a boyfriend. And Lango is just so innocent and adorable!
Watching him slowly learn the reigns of skateboarding, is like watching your child learn to walk. I already know who’s going to be winning future best boy contest with the fangirls lol.
However, things can’t just be all sunshine's and rainbows, because the edgelord shadow returns, challenging anyone to race. And in return, he gets to paint some asinine crude jokes on your body; something a 12-year-old would come up with...
Nevertheless, best boy Lango challengers shadow to a race, and at first things seem dire, until Lango has some sixth dimensional big brain moment realizing that skating is just snowboarding on wheels...

Therefore, we are blessed with a very cinematic flashy race. The direction of the movement between both riders is phenomenal. The intensity of the race is felt throughout their emotions, and with the stakes on the line!
Witnessing Shadow lose his composure as he’s being outclassed by a rookie who could barely ride on a skateboard, is intensified by an exceptional soundtrack sending chills down my bones.
Then as we finally reach the grand climax; Lango wins the race narrowly avoiding Shadows bombs in a beautiful landing!

SK8 the infinity is a breath of fresh air. Bringing the spotlight to an underrepresented sport, demonstrating how epic skateboarding can be!
I have no complaints for this show yet as of now, everything in episode 1 has blew me away!
