Powers & Abilities Ever since COC coating has been officially introduced, Oda has always been drawing it and COA distinctively

Whenever one is debating whether COC or COA is used, people use panels from before Oda properly introduced advCOC (chapter 1010)

and are unable to agree, because visual cues that are taken as a advCOC (sfx, thick lightning, black rays emitting from the fist/weapon before the hit) have been used by COA before that chapter or there are cases where they aren't used to represent advCOC (sfx, rays emitting from the fist/weapon, no touching). So people just end up sticking to whatever agenda they have. I won't post anything of that since this has been debated enough these last days.

The thing is, that the author, changes his visual cues once readers learn more about a power system
Things like COA turning your body or weapon black did not exist pre-timeskip, it only appearead after the timeskip, once the readerd understood more about haki after Rayleigh's explanations.

It's the same for advCOC, after it was properly introduced Oda needed it to make distinct from COA. So what did he do from chapter 1010 and onwards?

-Draw COA either only making your fist/weapon black and sometimes (for special moments like finishers) produce thin lightning
-Draw COC ALWAYS producing thick lightning

Direct comparisons :

COA impact vs advCOC impact

COA clash lightning vs COC clash lightning

And this has nothing to do with the strenght of a character as you can say with G5 Luffy's coa against Lucci or
Biggger Mom using COA :

Not even any lightning.
Luffy :

TL;DR COA and COC cannot be confused after COC coating was officially introduced to the readers, COA either only turns you black or your weapon black and sometimes thin black lightning for special moments. COC always produce thick lightning no matter the situation.

Yes CoC is distinctly thick and long trails of lightning like aura, CoA are usually very thin sparks. I also see people get confused with the “no touching” concept, that has been expressed to us to be a characteristic of armament it is the “barrier” haki being at play. Conquerors haki can be coated with and without this effect it’s just a sign of whether a character is combining their CoC and CoA for extra force or not.
