A possibility I just thought of as to why he is alive is that Moria may have have pulled a Reaper Death Seal with his Shadow powers to absorb some of Blackbeard’s power preventing him from killing Moria without kill himself too or his other self
Even Hancock states that DF status effects don’t disappear when the user dies. Knowing Moria I don’t doubt for a second his shadows run deep
