Just a short brainstorm:
Luffys Devil Fruit „Gomu Gomu no Mi“ could be the „Aero Aero no Mi“ or something like this, nevertheless the Air Fruit.
We all know that there is a devil fruit in the One Piece Universe that has a false name, but could be misinterpreted easily because of the use of the fruit. Otherwise it would be very clear that the name isnt fitting the power.
Luffy got his devil fruit powers by accident and it was transported by one of the most powerful people of the world - Shanks himself. Ironically Shanks was very confident that Luffy will once be a pirate that even surpasses him - a Yonko. And that just because he said the same thing Roger said? Or because he sensed Luffys Will as a D. and now has the greatest DF of all time..?!
It is more than a coincidence that the WG gives order to kill luffy imidiatly after talking about this special devil fruit with the changed name.
But lets take a glimps to the past:
Luffys Powers showed shortly after eating: he could stretch his whole body and was a natural counter to Enels lighting devil fruit. Rubber can stretch and is an isolator.
Logically his devil fruit must be a rubber ability, like the name indicated.
Really?
Air is an Isolator too. And if you blow air in something it expends or it pulls together. Reminds you of G3? Yes, me too. Luffy is Even pumping him up with air to use G3 and G4. And why is he even able to use G2? He is pumping the blood flow in his body. But can rubber do something like this? I don’t think so. But if you let the air in your veins circulate faster, something like described in G2 could be possible.
There are even more parallels to Air in his Gears than I explained now. Even in the recent chapter luffys explains that he cannot let the AIR get out of his body, otherwise he could not hold G4 any longer.
If Luffys DF is an Air Fruit, he could even be the natural counter not just to the lightning fruit, but to two very powerful DF to. Yes, BB Devil Fruits. That Luffy withstands pure power without haki is nothing new to us. The Gura Gura no mi shouldn’t be a problem to Luffy from the start. The bigger problem is the Yami Yami no Mi and especially the Gravitation and annulation power of it. From here on we know, that you can only escape Gravitation with one ability - you have to be light like a feather.
If Luffy awakenes his Air DF, he may be able to control his body weight to move even faster, let his punches become more powerful and even counter one of the strongest DF of all time. A DF user worth killing for the WG, even more when he is a D and will become the Pirate King 🏴☠️👑
