All of Maximus' opponents would get destroyed by Hector. None of the gladiators shown were Achilles level opponents who would render Hector a difficult time in battle. Given that Hector was able to at least damage Achilles' armor, shows he's both powerful and skilled on the battlefield. Place Hector in the same arena with Maximus and he would dominate the gladiators, to include Maximus himself.

I haven't seen these movies in years, so this is just off the top of my head.

Maximus hard diffs. The dude cut through a shield with one swordswing (when he was leading the cavalry vs the Gauls) and he showed some great strength when he threw off a tiger on his back with his shield and one arm to do so. Think Maximus has both skills and strength to compete with Hector and ultimately wins after a long grueling battle

I would go again with Achilles. He low diffed every opponent that came ath him in Troy.
He would also low diff every opponent maximus faced.
I think I would to review Gladiator to make myself a better opinion of Maximus level but as of now, I don't see maximus pushing Achilles higher than mid diff.

Achilles is too skilled in 1v1.

My bad, I thought it was Achilles vs maximus.

I would say it goes either way, depends where the plot stands.

You pit Legatus Maximus Decimus Meridius against a princeling?

Superior iron working, a vastly better knowledge of combat (having faced more varied opponents of higher caliber than anything from 11 century BC) and being of Roman stock guarantees Maximus the win.
