Whatup everyone.

I wanted to do a gauntlet on a character who I cannot seem to definitively scale in my mind. And now I’m wondering what our consensus on Houken’s level is now that time has passed.

I think my opinion on this character has definitely softened over time. I think dismissing him as simply having lost to Shin discredits the work Kyoukai put in as well, as well Kozen stabbing him through the leg. And I mean, the guy beat Kyoukai which is just crazy.

But anyway!

Let’s give Houken another chance to prove his Martial prowess in 2025.

Rules:
-Heals between each round
-Round 1: Mounted Combat
-Round 2: Dismounted Combat

Round 3: Zenou

Round 4: Shouheikun

Round 5: Tou

Round 6: Renpa

Round 7: Man’U

Round 8: Moubu

Round 9: Shibashou

ROUND 1: Gyou'Un

Mounted Combat:
Houken's sheer size, strength, and mastery of the glaive outclass Gyou’Un. Gyou’Un was capable of matching Shin for extended periods, but Houken’s brute force and absurd durability give him the edge here. While Gyou’Un is tenacious, he cannot outlast Houken’s overwhelming attacks.

Winner: Houken.

Dismounted Combat:
On foot, the gap is even larger. Houken’s speed and brute force dominate Gyou’Un’s already injured body (since Gyou’Un fought through pain in many of his battles). Gyou’Un can hold out for a while with his combat instincts but ultimately gets crushed.

Winner: Houken.

ROUND 2: Sento’Un

Mounted Combat:
Sento’Un’s raw aggression might allow him to keep up initially, but Houken’s physical dominance and superior technique will overpower him. Sento’Un thrives in chaos, but Houken is too disciplined and powerful to be thrown off his rhythm.

Winner: Houken.

Dismounted Combat:
Houken dominates Sento’Un even more decisively here. On foot, Sento’Un’s unorthodox movements won’t matter as much against Houken’s precision strikes and overwhelming strength.

Winner: Houken.

ROUND 3: Zenou

Mounted Combat:
Zenou is terrifying in terms of raw strength, but Houken’s superior glaive mastery and combat experience give him a massive edge. Zenou’s brute force cannot overcome Houken’s calculated strikes and overwhelming power.

Winner: Houken.

Dismounted Combat:
Zenou fares slightly better on foot because of his berserker style, but he still lacks the technique to properly challenge Houken. His wild swings would leave him open to precise counters, and Houken’s durability ensures he can tank anything Zenou throws at him.

Winner: Houken.

ROUND 4: Shouheikun

Mounted Combat:
Houken easily overpowers Shouheikun here. The latter’s strength lies in his mind, not in direct combat. Houken’s glaive mastery and physical power are far beyond what Shouheikun can handle.

Winner: Houken.

Dismounted Combat:
The result is the same. Shouheikun might try to use his intelligence to exploit weaknesses in Houken’s technique, but Houken’s raw physicality and superior combat skills ensure victory.

Winner: Houken.

ROUND 5: Tou

Mounted Combat:
Tou gives Houken significant trouble here. His elegance and technique are second to none, allowing him to evade Houken’s heavy attacks while landing precise strikes. However, Houken’s raw power and durability give him the ability to outlast Tou in a drawn-out fight.

Winner: Houken (barely).

Dismounted Combat:
Tou fares better on foot, where his agility and precision allow him to exploit Houken’s reliance on brute strength. However, Houken’s relentless offense and superior physicality eventually overwhelm Tou.

Winner: Houken (with difficulty).

ROUND 6: Renpa

Mounted Combat:
Renpa has the edge in experience and adaptability, but Houken’s sheer strength puts him ahead. The battle would be incredibly close, but Houken’s stamina and raw power would give him the edge in a prolonged fight.

Winner: Houken (extreme difficulty).

Dismounted Combat:
Renpa on foot is a nightmare for Houken. His mastery of combat and ability to read opponents would allow him to exploit Houken’s straightforward fighting style. In a prolonged fight, Renpa’s superior skill and tactical mind win out.

Winner: Renpa.

ROUND 7: Man’U

Mounted Combat:
Man’U’s strength and composure make this a grueling fight, but Houken’s superior technique and glaive mastery allow him to land decisive blows. Man’U’s calm nature might delay the inevitable, but he cannot overcome Houken’s relentless power.

Winner: Houken.

Dismounted Combat:
On foot, the gap is slightly wider. Houken’s speed and precision allow him to exploit Man’U’s size and land critical strikes.

Winner: Houken.

ROUND 8: Moubu

Mounted Combat:
Houken’s glaive mastery gives him an advantage over Moubu on horseback, but Moubu’s monstrous strength levels the playing field. This is a brutal slugfest, but Houken’s superior technique edges out a victory.

Winner: Houken (extreme difficulty).

Dismounted Combat:
On foot, Moubu’s raw power is too overwhelming. Houken struggles against Moubu’s relentless attacks and ultimately succumbs to his monstrous strength.

Winner: Moubu.

ROUND 9: Shibashou

Mounted Combat:
Shibashou’s calm and calculated fighting style allows him to handle Houken’s brute force. His adaptability and skill allow him to outmaneuver Houken and exploit weaknesses in his technique.

Winner: Shibashou.

Dismounted Combat:
Shibashou’s superiority is even clearer on foot. He reads Houken like a book and lands decisive blows, ultimately taking him down.

Winner: Shibashou.

Where would you place the version of Shin who fought so intensely that he literally died in the aftermath and had to be revived by Kyou Kai through a ritual?

Personally, I would place that version of Shin slightly above characters like Renpa and Ouki, as Shin, at his most desperate moments in battle, has shown the ability to clash with and defeat opponents far above his weight class.

Ex: Rinko

My man went hard with this post lmfao. But I think this might be underestimating Houken’s extreme skill lol:

Stops at Moubu. Why is SBS above Moubu BTW?

Ouki defeated Houken far more easily than Shin did. Depends on how much stronger you think the version of Houken Shin fought is compared to his Bayou self, but I don't think the difference is significant enough to put Shin above Ouki.

1-5 I am confident in Houken wining.

Renpa is debatable since it was implied he has monstrous weight which happens to be Houken's weakness.

Man'u and Shibashou still haven't shown enough to call it.

Moubu wins after a good fight.

Houken wins against the first 3 rather « easily »

SHK is difficult : I think when the guy will go all out he will be strong and have enough weight to be a real challenge. But for now let’s go with Houken.

Renpa is difficult too. Let’s take Sanyou Renpa. Ouki managed to beat Houken two times and Renpa was just below him it seems martially. But Ouki was boosted by Kyou death. But maybe Renpa will be boosted by Ouki death.
I bet on Renpa extreme diffing the bushin and winning

Man U is complicated : the empty Man U has no chance to win. With no weight Houken is superior to ANYONE in the verse.
But I def think that once Man U will have his fire back he will be a real challenge for Houken. Extreme diff either way maybe.

Moubu and SBS are beating Houken ass. Too high combo of strength skills and weight

Wins round 3, loses all other rounds.

Kanki's chimp gets saved for being in later rounds, but Gyou'un slays Houken. Gonna avoid mounted vs unmount since most these dudes are featless unmounted.

Love Gyouun but this is crazy overestimating tbh. He gets destroyed. He doesn’t belong at the absolute top table.
