As a citizen of one piece what do you think would be the acceptable headcanon on how shanks lost his arm? Obviously, red hair pirates won't tell the world that shanks lost his arm to a sea monster.
Did he lose it in a fight?

Realistically, when the news of Shanks losing his arm got out, everybody was surprised (including Whitebeard) so mostly like that Big News Morgan would use this opportunity to release fake news that Shanks lost his arm against Mihawk. And that's how Mihawk got his WSS title.

So if I were a random citizen, I would read the newspaper of Morgans's headline.
