General & Others How Do You Classify Each Arc?

#1
Going island by island in the story, some are very small arcs, sort of pit stops and some are 100+ chapters long. As the manga has progressed the time spent on islands has increased. Some of the islands are set course for while others come up automatically/by chance. At this point in the manga I dont even remember which were actual destinations and which just came out of nowhere. Since the list is too long I will just share the link from the wiki Story Arcs | One Piece Wiki | Fandom .

My point is that some islands/arcs are set in stone and the crew tries to reach it for certain plot point. For example Shells Town is set course for by Koby because it is a navy base where he wants to enlist and because Zoro is there who Luffy wants to recruit. The very next island though (Orange Town) is arrived at by chance (Luffy getting eaten by bird). Syrup Village/Baratie are reached by chance (iirc) while Arlong Park is a set destination.

By entering the GL the course is set by the Log Pose but even then certain islands are the destination like Alabasta while the recent Egghead came up by chance.

The question though is which type of island/arc is Elbaf going to be. On one hand it is set since forever but it is not a plot point arc like Arlong Park, Alabasta or Wano. It has been set by VP in Egghead that they need to go to Elbaf and then the giants also arrive but it does not seem as plot driven as the ones mentioned previously.

IMO the arcs are mostly:
War arcs - Arcs where the characters voyage here for the sheer reason to defeat someone
Rescue arcs - Arcs where the characters voyage here to save someone
Adventure arcs - The straw hats end up here by coincidence

There used to be recruitment arcs where Luffy and the crew went to a destination purely to recruit people: Shells Town, Baratie, Dum Kingdom, and Water 7, but that seems kinda done by now.

And there can be arcs that overlap the three I mentioned, but those I think encapsulate the main types of arcs in the story.

IMO Elbaf is shaping to be an adventure arc, that will have war arc elements. The straw hats came here to adventure; with no plan to defeat anyone; however, the war will probably come to them. I’d guess Elbaf to be 70 chapters.
