Theory How Smoker's awakening will work

Crocodile's dehydration is probably logia awakening
so Smoker's will probably be similar, but relevant to smoke

instead of dehydrating, allowing crocodile to create more sand, smoker will have the ability to burn things by touching them, allowing him to create more smoke.

He doesn't have the ability to "use" fire, rather he has the ability to cause things to burn and release smoke.

You are on the right track but just a bit wrong about Crocodile imo.

Crocodile's moveset was written during an era when Oda didnt have concepts of df awakening in his mind, yet his mastery over his df was specifically emphasized. If you look at it, even w/o Paramythia / Logia awakenings - Oda still gave Crocodile environmental altering moves like Ground Secco & Ground Death which also sap stamina in Crocodile's own words.

Such moves are most likely gonna be retconned into awakening imo.

Regarding Smoker too, awakening seems like logically the next step for Smoker.

I wish Smoker was the one with the Gas Gas fruit instead of Caesar, since it's the superior fruit to the Smoke Smoke fruit. It would offer him soooo much more versatility and make his offense dangerous even to NW pirates. His smoke leaves a lot to be desired

Find it hard to believe Smoker will ever awaken without it being another Loda asspull, he's probably had his fruit for a long time but his usage of it is hilariously bad, compare that to someone like Big Mom who's had her fruit for 62 years and shown pretty good feats with it and still not awakened.

I guess if Oda wants Smoker to be relevant, giving him an awakening is pretty much the only way, but it's not deserved for his character at all.

Not familiar with the science behind smoke but he can gain darker smoke, usually this is more toxic and highly flammable.
Maybe he can get some form of fire igniter from Vegapunk, potentially creating massive explosions and yielding even more toxic smoke.

Enel, Crocodile haven't faced a proper haki user, Smoker was ecpanding too much his smoke from his actual body that became a bigger target to Vergo. He can't create smoke from environment or sources outside his body.

Smoker's Awakening will be black smoke like Kurono from Fire Force.

And his strongest attack might gives his opponents lung cancer.

Then there's one character that is basically immune to lung cancer.

If we do get a Sanji vs Awakened Smoker or even a clash at some point, I hope it will be look as good as this:
