I think all of the BB Pirates or at the very least, the M3s opponents are gonna be hella broken so in addition to potentially having mythical Zoan, he's also said to be a powerful hypnotist so that could also be pretty broken as well. Plus consider, Laffite is a flyer, Oda could have Laffite dominate Sanji in mid air (i.e. the latter's forte) to have him develop even further and overcome him.
Haki could also potentially be a theme for the M3s opponents given Kaido was obsessing over it in the most recent chapter. Still pretty weird that Oda released the SHs Haki affinities post-ts and has rarely developed Zoro and Sanji in their respective specialties beyond what they were capable of coming out the timeskip, so Oda might have each of them polish their specialities to the highest possible levels through this fight. So Laffite for instance could potentially be an FS user and then force Sanji to unlock it or maybe even go beyond that ^^
Also Laffite's bounty will be enough to prove what you're saying. If he has a bounty in the 2bils then he'd be beyond all the current commanders save Shiryu and maybe Benn depending on how the story plays out. Oda could also hype him by having him defeat one of the Yonko No.2s like Katakuri or even Beckman

I get the logic behind Zoro unlocking FS against Shiryu, it's a reasonable argument but it doesn't necessarily have to be the case. We also don't know whether FS will be the counter for invisibility. At the essence, FS still relies on sensing your opponent's intent, if Shiryu is able to mask his intent for instance, FS might not be the answer.
