The matchups so far have been mostly what I predicted, but there are a few adjustments I’d make.
1. Jinbe doesn’t fight Who’s Who. Instead, Brook fights Who’s Who. Fellow mid trio members, Franky and Robin, got to solo a F5, so it’s only fair that Brook gets to do so too. And for all you powerscaling freaks who insist that Brook absolutely cannot beat the strongest Vet, then I would just have the story rewritten so that WsW still gets portrayed as on the same level as Sasaki and Maria, but not necessarily the strongest of the three
2. Jinbe fights Smoothie. This matchup would make sense since Jinbe is clearly on YC level, after his performance against WsW, so he can tango with Smoothie. Both also use water to power up their attacks, and Jinbe has a stronger connection to the BMPs than the BPs. Also, Smoothie getting an actual fight would be much cooler than her doing literally nothing.
3. Chopper fights P1. I’d much rather have seen Chopper get an actual matchup instead of his shining moment in this arc being curing a virus that no readers were actually interested in, and then having an entirely off screen fight against Beast Form Queen, who was just fucking around. It would also be nice to see P1 actually do something in Onigashima instead of being Ulti’s useless sidekick
4. Nami vs Ulti actually becomes a decently written fight. Nami uses the Zeus attack she used against BM back at WCI to finish off Ulti. That attack was so much cooler and actually did a good job at portraying how damaging it is, as opposed to the awful Ulti-finishing attack used in the manga, which has no weight behind it at all
5. Usopp beats Jack. Yes, I said it. Usopp beats Jack. Of course, in this scenario, Jack still goes through his beating on the roof, and then proceeds to get weakened even further by fighting (and eventually beating) Inu. So Usopp would be beating a Jack who isn’t close to full strength. Usopp would first start off the fight by fighting at a long range, fighting smart, and laying traps in order to slowly wear down Jack over time while also keeping Jack away from him. However, Jack would ultimately end up catching up to Usopp, and in that moment, Usopp would be forced to evolve as a character, and instead of fighting cowardly, he will fight bravely and take on (a severely weakened) Jack head on. In this scenario, I would have Usopp unlocking CoA at the very least, but I would also have Usopp probably get another powerup on top of that. I’m not exactly sure what that powerup would or should be, so that’s were Oda’s creativity can come into play. This matchup would make sense because Usopp will eventually surpass his father, so Usopp could very likely become Luffy’s “YC3”, and also, Usopp needs to grow a lot stronger if he’s gonna surpass his dad soon. Oda may also want to maintain Usopp having one of the highest bounties in the crew, so he would have to do something more amazing than beating a F5. Lastly, it would be important for Usopp’s growth as a character and progression towards his dream for him to take on a strong melee fighter head-on instead of cowering away.
6. Momotaro Quartet vs Kaido, and Kid, Law, Drake, Apoo, Hawkins, and Killer vs Big Mom. These may still happen, but I’m putting this here in case they don’t
7. Daifuku, Compote, and the other BMPs on the Chanter vs Kid and Law’s crews. Let their crewmates somewhat important, instead of having them fight background fodders for the entire war
