How would you Rate One Piece as an Anime adaptation?

#1
How do it compare to the manga? does it adapt manga well? does it improve the series?

And also, how do you feel about the creative freedom that animators have to change and add stuff in the episodes?

leave your thoughs.

it's to easy to pick an number, c'mom you can do better than that

let's talk about the fidelity to the manga. thoughs on the animation style, effects etc....
The biggest thing for me is pacing. It's literal ASS. Any time i try to watch a post skip episode, i wanna claw my eyes out cause of the slower than snail pacing.

Animation was not good before wano either. But at least it wasn't a dbz ki color explosion bonanza. Wano may have slightly better animation and artstyle. But it's completely undone by all the aura shit.

Faithfulness is completely fucked over due to pacing too. Scenes and attacks that took seconds in manga are stretched to multiple minutes and more. They also sacrifice faithfulness to the manga for "hype" and "coolness" which is just more aura and dumb shit.

One of the WORST offenders tho is the sound design and osts. They literally fucking reuse db and dbz era sound effects. Those are so damn outdated and repetitive. There's like 20 osts that they just reuse over and over and over again.

All in all, Toei is trash. The weekly anime episodes year round system is a relic of the past and should be discarded completely. But it makes them too much money to just stop now.

Hopefully the Wit anime is good, does well and can last long enough to completely do the series.

overall anime 6

overall manga 7 or 8
as an anime OP has always been slightly above average but nothing more than that

yes it produces great episodes time to time but the overall animation quality is average at best and the pacing is all over the place to say the least

however I can't deny the massive cultural impact of OP so I won't blame anyone if they think it's the best anime ever made

Pre Wano - 8/10
The old animation with clean art and animation was good. At times not ideal, sure. But it delivered very well in key moments and fights.

Late Wano and Post Wano - 2/10
I dropped the anime due to weird squiggly art, aura/colour overload and blocks for rubble.

some great moments but I mainly stay away from weekly episodes
large binges much better
quality is so poor
filled with subpar spacing and reaction shots, inconsistent animation budgets clearly shown with rapid drops in quality week in week out.

Better to be a seasonal anime given enough time for animators to produce content under less restraints and optimized for quality. demon slayer doing so well in the movie market is largely due to its well made anime adaptation.

One Piece manga may have more popularity but its anime adaptation severely limits its ceiling.

It's a mixed bag. Pre wano the fights are done good but pacing sucks hard.

From wano it's a mix bag again. Some good scenes are there but toei has been changing too many scenes making it way more different than manga content.

Except for a few episodes where completely fucked up haki and Aura.

Wano was neat, Zoro vs King, Law and kidd vs Bigmom, Luffy vs Kaidou.

Even post wano, Initial egghead was good, Law vs Blackbeard, Shanks vs Kidd, garp vs Aokiji.

5/10 at best overall. That it doesn't rate lower is mostly a testament to the quality of the manga. The Big 3 all have comparatively bad adaptions. They suffered from being too popular for their own good. Uneven art quality is a given, but their anime's all were full of filler's, with terrible padding and stretching.

The modern popular Shonen seem better than they really are by having "proper" anime adaptions. The likes of Jujutsu and Demon Slayer. They wouldn't be nearly as acclaimed if they were adapted similarity with 200+ episodes of filler.

Pre time skip:
Pro:
+ Art overall (It was rarely excellent but the art direction was just charming)
+ Dub
+ Soundtrack ( Overtaken, Luffy vs Ratchet 1, nuff said)
+ Extended slice of dice filler moments
+ Sound design (Could be better and yeah they are re- using some from DBZ, but given the scale I don't mind)

Neutral:
- Animation
- Adapting the fights

Con:
- Pacing
- Filler which have gone against the canon (although I recall it wasn't as glaring as in PTS)

Overall 7-8/10 for me

Post time skip:
Pro:
+ Dub
+ Sound design
+ Excellent animation when it comes to key moments

Neutral:
- Soundtrack (Not as good as pre time skip osts for me)

Con:
- Pacing ( Worse than pre time skip)
- Art style till Wano (Zou was the exception iirc)
- Filler (Just horrid overall, they are writing their own series at this point)
- Animation ( even main fights before Wano were looking quite bad for the most part)
- Adapting Fights ( way to overtuned and flashy, just too much effects used in general, feels like I'm watching DBZ at this point)

4-5/10 at best
