You might be wondering, 'Sasaki Kojiro, why go to such lengths?' It's because this week I caught the whiners in the translation war., crying over a VIZ translation that claimed Kizaru was seeing stars. I've posted the entire conversation in Portuguese so that if someone has any doubts about what I'm talking about, they can take the text and translate it.

I start the story like this: Olá, boa noite! Você poderia me ajudar em uma tradução ? Se trata desse texto em especifico, poderia traduzir ? ficarei muito grato.



I type this: Eu acho que na tradução não existe a frase: As pessoas dizem ,o termo que oda ( o autor) usa para falar sobre o título de Kaido é [呼ばれる / chamado], o que torna válido e não apenas algum boato circulando por aí. Se possível me informar a sua tradução.

She says this initially conversation messages: Oi boa noite 🌙 Sim, よばれる significa “chamado” “ pirata que é chamado de….” Seria assim a tradução.

I type this: Você poderia digitar isso em inglês? É que eu preciso isso para provar meu ponto e como o pessoal na qual estou discutindo não sabe português fica melhor para eles entenderem, e se não for pedir muito poderia colocar a frase completa ?

She says this: Pior que eu n sei nada de inglês kkkkkk se soubesse ajudava

I type this: Mas você tem certeza que na frase não tem nada dizendo: É dito ser a criatura viva mais forte, ou Dizem que esse pirata é a criatura viva mais forte do mundo ?
O correto séria Um pirata conhecido/chamado de a criatura viva mais forte ?

She says: Pq assim Em japonês não existe plural por isso meio que para japonês não seria certo “dizem” mas se for pra traduzir em português faz até sentido. Por isso o certo é “chamado”

I think in the translation, there is no sentence: 'People say, the term that Oda (the author) uses to talk about Kaido's title is [呼ばれる /called],which makes it valid and not just some rumor circulating around.

Japanese teacher's response: "Hi, good evening 🌙 Yes, よばれる means 'called' 'pirate who is called...' That would be the translation.

I typed: Could you type this in English? You sent It's just that I need this to prove my point, and since the people I'm discussing with don't know Portuguese, it's better for them to understand. And if it's not too much to ask, could you include the complete sentence?

Japanese teacher's response: Worse, I don't know any English, hahaha. If I did, I would help.

I typed: But are you sure that in the sentence there's nothing saying: 'It is said to be the strongest living creature,' or 'They say this pirate is the strongest living creature in the world'? You sent The correct version would be 'A pirate known/called as the strongest living creature'?

Japanese teacher's response: Because, you see, in Japanese, there's no plural form, so it's not really correct to say "they say" in Japanese, but when translating to Portuguese, it does make sense. That's why the right terms are "called".

Man, this topic is just for satisfying certain translation curiosities; I had a question about this topic I saw on Twitter.

I don't see what's wrong with getting curious and satisfying that curiosity. But the guy @ZenZu just told me to take a break, I didn't understand... Should I take a break from college when I have doubts about a subject?

Satisfy your curiosity all you want bud, no ones stopping you. I simply told you to take a break because you seem confused/aren't making any sense both in the opening sentence and your response to me.

Did I hurt your feelings or something recently without knowing? Is that why you keep tagging me? I'm genuinely confused.

I have no idea what the purpose of this thread is or what you're talking about nor do I have any interest in reading it, I can tell it's about translations. I can only handle one of these kind of threads a week tops.

In my opinion, it seemed to me that you were crying here, I might have misinterpreted, my bad.

I actually enjoyed reading this one though I can't lie but tell me how I understood the overall message on first read without needing such an in depth breakdown of japanese? Heck you don't even need to know what he said.

Just looking at Kizaru's expression both before and after getting hit sets the tone here. It's not that serious, you just have some diehard Yonkou fans trying to make this a bigger deal than it was presented to us. And then everyone gets caught up in that nonsense.

I didn't mind what Viz went with either, though after reading your post it does look like they could have kept it more grounded.

In this comment, you seemed to me like someone who doesn't enjoy translation wars. I mentioned you here to show that it can have a positive purpose and isn't all that bad... since you seemed upset in that regard. Anyway, forgive me, I didn't think it would affect you this way.
