Buzzword. It is meaningless.
comically disconnected from society
Reddit attracts these people by the nicheness of its subsections.
Never before could social outcasts from all around the planet easily find a place where they can freely share their far removed from reality worldviews.
Worst of all, these are some the most frequented and active sections. They are constantly on the frontpage.
Reddit has only 1 real use and that is getting basic information on niche topics. Anything past novice is too much. You need to consult dedicated forums for this.
Reddit is in every way, shape or form the lowest common denominator of information. Its forced mediocrity.
You can only slightly improve it by changing the default sorting to "controversial".
As for Twitter...
Twitter is mainly people screaming into the void. Most tweets, even good ones, go unnoticed.
Its way more controversial. It does not revert back to mediocrity like reddit does. Which is good.
Controversy is necessary.
Now that Elon and his gang made moves to get rid of bots on a large scale the entire platform has become even better than before.
Funny enough that without massive bot posting the site is now considered "far-right" by some. Kind of revealing.
