IMU and his association with floods is based on Chinese mythology. His name comes from the demon Shu-imu who is known to flood lakes and rivers, until defeated by the Monkey King:

The world flooding connection to IMU is based on another Chinese myth about the evil god GongGong. GongGong is often depicted as a Black Dragon who fought against the Chinese god of fire (Sun God). When GongGong eventually lost he became so angered he impaled Mount Buzhou with his horn tearing a hole in it and tilting the earth causing flood waters to gush out a cataclysmic flood to happen:

The Kano country is based on China, and the Happo Navy seems to be related to the Mafia since their leaders are called “Dons” and Don Chinjoa specifically practices a martial art form that relates to smashing things with his head. IMU has a strongly elongated crown on his head that can easily be a horn that he uses similar Techniques as Chinjoa with, his family name Nerona is Italian in origin much like the Mafia.
The ruler of Kano, Ramen, has a black dragon tattoo on his head (Gonggon) which has an arrow shaped tail the same as IMU’s. He also wears a chain around his neck similar to what the slaves of the Celestial Dragond wear, perhaps symbolizing that he is ether directly a slave of the Celestials or his family was before the Nerona family went to Marijose leaving his family in charge of Kano.
IMU’s “Top Man” Warcury is also a demon from Chinese myth, the Houki, and we saw in recent chapters Warcury’s head has been noted to be especially hard much like Chinjoa’s, hinting that Warcury probably knows the same martial art as Chinjoa and IMU.
Amazon lily is also inspired by China and the women there specifically don’t allow men in, which implies that the women may have been from Kano and left due to the abusive nature of the men. If we look at how Celestial Dragons treat women as slaves and abduct wives like Ginny this makes sense. It may have even been that Lily saved many of the women from Kano and founded Amazon Lily. Lily specifically seems to be an object of IMU’s obsession and he may have abducted her after the founding of the WG or attempted too. His ringed eyes might indicate that he has the love sickness for Lily too, since Gloriosa gets rings in her eyes when talking about love sickness.
IMU is also literally punching holes in the earth like Gongong with Uranus.
