Whomever the burned man is, it’s someone that nobody knows anything about. If it was any old gen pirate, then their identity shouldn’t be a mystery. I mean all of the old gen pirates have bounties. They are infamous.
Imu would fit that category. Barely anyone knows of his existence.
The burned man is speculated to have a DF. Only a very powerful ability would be able to create whirlpools. Imu, showing mythical zoan powers, likely has such a power.
One final thing, if we are saying that the burned man cannot be an old gen pirate, as those guys are infamous and their identity wouldn’t be a mystery, what ancient character do we know of that has done battle with a fire user? Imu
As we know, fire is one of the powers of Joyboy. Oda introduced this back in FI with Luffy’s red hawk ability. In wano we saw an upgraded version with Red Roc. Nika is the Sun god, hence he is likely capable of some of the strongest flame attacks in the series.
So yeah. Joyboy burned Imu during the void century. When Roger found One Piece, Imu likely left Mariejois to take the fishman island poneglyph, thereby preventing anyone from becoming PK and succeeding Roger.
I think Luffy will find a workaround to this. He will figure out a way to reach Laugh Tale using only 3 poneglyphs. As such Luffy becoming PK will underscore him surpassing Roger, as he would have accomplished a greater feat than Roger, finding OP without all 4 poneglyphs.
It would also finally make Nami important. Despite being part of the East blue trio, she hasn’t done much of anything as of late. But if the crew cannot get the final poneglyph, then her role as navigator will be absolutely crucial.
