Theory Inspiration for Luffy/Joyboy as a Pirate, the man with the eye patch.

#1
All I searched was "which pirate was most famous for an eye patch" and this man came up:

Rahmah ibn Jabir al-Jalhami an Arab rule in the persian gulf region. "The most successful and tolerated pirate of any sea"

(His name sounds like Rama another inspiration for Luffy)

(Ramah is also a city from the Bible in Ancient Israel, Ramah means Height in Hebrew. (Reminds me of the Redline in One Piece) Ramah is a city populated by the descendants of Rachel, The mother of Israel)

He began his pirate career with 10 companions and would later have as many as 2000 followers.

He always followed the laws of warfare

He left a legacy behind in death, dying in 1826 and still being talked about in 1960 coffee shops.

He is a hero in Arabian folklore

"To some he was a pirate, to others a patriot, to all a poet." (Poet? reminds me of Binks Sake)

Rahmah ibn Jabir al-Jalhami - Wikipedia

Not much but some cool biblical and Persian inspiration Oda likely is using in One Piece.

Luffy being based on 2 different Rama's a god and a pirate is pretty cool.
