This is a bit misleading.

The translation says, Oda planned for Zoro to become One eyed. Which doesn't mean Zoro lost the eye. In fact, it seems its intentionally vague why Zoro has One eye in the interview

Good to know Oda really likes the Oniwaban arc. Tokyo portion of the series is very underrated, imo. They were a cool set of antagonists, with a very tragic story. Aoshi is still my favorite Kenshin rival (sorry Saito fans), with a fantastic character arc, and Misao is the best.

P.S. Kanryu is a scumbag.
