I always said Akainu was far more nuanced than the low brains that Oda markets his manga to picked up on lol. Oda first drawing Akainu gardening in his free time, as well as him sparing Aokiji’s life hinted toward Akainu’s more nuanced side. When Sakazuki stood up to the Gorosei and even disrespected him, this debunked the baseless notion people had that Akainu was some blind Government dog who couldn’t think for himself, some fundamentalist conservative who was blind to any thoughts an philosophies outside of what the Government indoctrinated him into believing, but in my eyes it was obvious this was never the case. And especially with the introduction of Ryokugyu, who is almost a caricature of people thought Akainu was-some bloodlusted hardcore Marine who thinks the Celestial Dragons are gods and who is only interested in forcing his own extremist philosophies on everyone he comes across. This was never Akainu at any point and the fact that Oda wrote Ryokugyu this way gives me hope that Oda isn’t a complete retard and actually still remembers how to write good characters in spite of what Wano would lead one to believe.
Oda drew Akainu gardening to display his calm introspection of his own worldview, which is not characteristic of fundamentalism. Fundamentalists do not have moments of quiet introspection or self-reflection, fundamentalists are ignorant of almost everything outside of what they are propagandized into believing. They don’t spend time in quiet thought or meditation, and they have no hobbies or life outside of what beliefs are forced on them. The fact that Oda gave Akainu such a unique and quiet hobby is supposed to demonstrate that there is far more to this character than Marineford would indicate.
The point of Oda showing Akainu disrespecting the Gorosei is also a hardcore spit in the face to those who think Akainu is a blind government dog. I can’t really picture Ryokugyu standing up to the Gorosei like this, not when he views them as Gods and views their rule as being righteous. Ryokugyu was probably fine with the Gorosei’s actions in Dressrosa. He probably viewed it has being not his place to question or probably thought them calling the Fleet Admiral’s integrity into question was fine because the Gorosei are Gods.
Akainu however, was not okay with this. He has his own pride, his own views, his own thoughts, and his own philosophies. He does not view the Gorosei as infallible and doesn’t think they should play with the Navy’s pride in this manner. Again, this is Oda showing that the Red Dog is far more nuanced than his low brain audience thinks.
So is Hibari Akainu’s daughter? I don’t know but I certainly hope so lol. Either way, it’s always been extremely obvious to me that Sakazuki is a very nuanced character, almost too nuanced for Oda to have written him so I often wonder who Oda is plagiarizing when he writes Akainu lol.
