If he just toss into space there is a possibility they may would return eventually.

He needed to have Yuji eating all 20 fingers and then idk. Either Yuji would live with that since Sukuna would be "tamed" by him even with 20 fingers apparently and when he died at old age by natural causes Sukuna would die with him. Or idk what bullshit Gege would came up with it.

I think it is more concerning to ask why Sukuna didn't changed body with Megumi already at Shibuya Arc than asking this.
