General & Others Is Oda a Flashback Merchant?

Most is a supreme stretch
There's a difference between arcs that are carried by their flashbacks and good arcs that have good flashbacks within them
The Oden flashback carries the life out of Wano and Chopper's flashback is pretty much the only super notable thing that happens in Drum Kingdom
But I wouldn't say Robin's flashback "carries" Enies Lobby, Sanji's 2nd flashback doesn't carry WCI, Nami's flashback doesn't carry Arlong Park, and the Noland flashback doesn't carry Skypiea
Dressrosa is in a weird spot for me. Don't know where I'd place it on the spectrum tbh

Sure, but what does everyone default to when they mention Drum Island?
Chopper’s flashback. It stands far above everything else that happens that arc especially because of the length of the arc itself
You can’t say the same for Robin’s flashback in Enies Lobby or Nami’s flashback in Arlong Park. Those are defining moments in the arc but they don’t make the arc. The Franky flashback in Water 7 is an even better example than both of those actually
That’s also why I mentioned hesitating on where I should place Dressrosa. Because Law’s flashback stands far above everything else that happens in the arc but it also has so many reveals and iconic moments that it lands somewhere in the middle
Drum Island without the hard hitting Chopper flashback is a cool arc but nothing special. The flashback is what makes it one of the best arcs pre timeskip

I would argue stuff like the oden flashback (because of the retroactive fitting in of oden and how much PIS oda need to write into the characters) and stuff like that are actually harmful to the story
I see the argument however, that oda is willing to kill characters in flashback and have hard consequences and drama that he usually dont like to include into the mainstory (especially with goofy goofing around lately) so some of the flashback are excelling because of that like the Kuma one for example (imagine that one with Luffy present lmao)
Odas flashback also vary in tone when he can go to a time and space where NOTHING from the usual characters are involved, like my favorite flashback, the kalgara/noland flashback, which makes me excited for the void century one
